Jerry is a character who appears in the 2020 Disney+ original film Black Beauty.
Background[]
Jerry is a kind carriage driver who purchased Black Beauty who was saved from a farmer who mistreated her. Beauty adores him for his kind treatment to her, especially during his attempt to help her find Jo Green. However, he is shown to have a dislike for cold weather, as he is seen coughing during the time where he brought Beauty to search for Jo everywhere, but could not find a sign of her. This gave Beauty another challenge when Jerry was sick just before Jo was able to reunite with her and bring her back to Birtwick Stables.
Role in the film[]
Jerry is first seen bringing Black Beauty to the Midtown Stables along with his family where he tells his wife Polly that his daughter Polly picked out this horse, which she tells her parents that Beauty is tired out. As Beauty adapts her life in the stable, Jerry's daughter Dolly, which reminded her of Jo. Polly, who is unaware of that Beauty has a name, tells her husband to give the horse a name, which Dolly suggests naming her "Lady", which Jerry feels likes the name. Jerry then used a carriage to use Beauty for transportation which Beauty began to narrate that Jerry is kind to her, unlike her encounter with the farmer who mistreated her and the other horses for an illegal company just as Jerry uses her for transportation across the city to find Jo.
As the seasons changed, Jerry continued Beauty a ride trying to find Jo, but Beauty would not give up hope to find her as she was unable to find Jo at the moment. Every day, Jerry and Beauty looked for Jo, but could not find a sign of her. Just as he and Beauty stop, they suddenly encounter Ginger who was secretly sold to another man by Mrs. Winthorp where Beauty spends her last moments with Ginger just before she later dies, resulting Beauty to mourn over the loss over a fellow horse who accompanied her in the Birtwick Stables just before Jerry tells her to return to the Midtown Stables. Jerry brings Beauty home, but ends up coughing, which Beauty narrated that Beauty caught a cold, resulting him to become unavailable for transportation, just as Beauty faced another challenge, as it is shown that Jerry is unavailable for the rest of the winter until spring. Beauty later reunites with Jo who brings her back to Birtwick Stables.

- In the original source material, Jerry's full name is "Jerry Barker", unlike in the Disney adaptation of Black Beauty where he was simply credited under his first name.
