The Jesters are characters from the It's a Small World attraction.
History[]
Background[]
The jesters seen inside the Glockenspiel clock-building are the ones who appear on the clock tower's center door. Both sides of the door contain two jesters using different instruments: a gong and a triangle respectively. Each jester wears colored clothes in a red and yellow pattern wearing eccentric hats in the same pattern respectively as well as two dark blue winklepickers for footwear.
Development history[]
After the "It's a Small World" attraction closed in 1965, the attraction moved to Disneyland in May 28, 1966 alongside the other two attractions, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and Carousel of Progress. When the Glockenspiel clock tower was constructed in the Fantasyland, the jesters were included as well as the toy soldiers.
Due to the success of the attraction, the "It's a Small World" attraction was later constructed in Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland because of how popular the attraction is, still with the clock tower scene.
Originally, the Magic Kingdom incarnation of the attraction did not have the iconic Glockenspiel where the facade inside was located indoors albeit without the clock tower in it after the Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971. In May 2004, the attraction at the Magic Kingdom closed down for a major refurbishment to add the iconic Glockenspiel clock tower which later opened on March 2005 just like what the California, Tokyo, and Paris versions have; however, it does not include the clock parade scene and instead includes toy soldiers inside the clock tower, followed by two jesters ringing out the current time.
Appearances[]
It's a Small World[]
In the queue area of "It's a Small World" after the clock parade ends, Glockenspiel's center door reveals two jesters on the sides other doors inside ringing out the current time. When they appear, a loud bell toll is heard when the current time appears inside the clock. The doors featuring the toy soldiers and the jesters close respectively afterwards.
It's a Small World Holiday[]
The jesters inside Glockenspiel reprise their classic appearances in the seasonal Christmas overlay, where they ring out the current time. Like in the original incarnation of the attraction, the jesters ring out the current time as a loud bell toll is heard when the current time appears inside the clock. The doors featuring the toy soldiers and the jesters close respectively afterwards.
