James Edward "Jim" Carter, OBE, is an English actor. He is perhaps best known for his role as Mr. Carson in the ITV British historical drama series Downton Abbey, a role that earned him four nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. He also reprised this role in the 2019 film remake and its 2022 sequel. Additionally, he portrayed John Faa in the 2007 fantasy adventure film The Golden Compass.
For Disney, he played Rossi in the 1992 Hollywood Pictures film Blame It on the Bellboy, Detective Armstrong in 102 Dalmatians, and Nish the Ogre in the 2004 Miramax film Ella Enchanted (although not technically a Disney film). He also voiced the Red Queen's Executioner in Tim Burton's 2010 film Alice in Wonderland.
