I wanted to be you. Sam Wilson. Because that guy, that guy won't ever give up. That pressure, that responsibility you talk about? I want that, too, man.
―Joaquin to Sam Wilson[src]

Joaquin Torres (pronounced H as hawk-een, later known as Falcon) is a Marvel Comics character who appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appears in the Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and debuts in the first episode. He is portrayed by Danny Ramirez.

He is an affiliate of Sam Wilson, who works on investigating the Flag Smashers. Joaquin succeeds Sam as the Falcon after he officially accepts the mantle of Captain America.

Three years into their partnership, Joaquin assists Sam as Captain America and helps him try to clear Isaiah Bradley's name after being brainwashed by Samuel Sterns into attempting to assassinate president Thaddeus Ross, but Joaquin is accidentally shot down and treated, later officially being given the title of Falcon, and is made an official member of the Avengers by Sam.

  • Exo-7 Falcon: As he possesses no powers of his own, Joaquín Torres uses the EXO-7 Falcon, a jet pack with collapsible wings attached to it, which simulate superhuman abilities.

On a mission in Tunisia, with the Air Force, Torres assists Sam Wilson against a hijacking by the LAF, managing to rescue Captain Vasant, who was taken hostage. On ground, the pair settle in an outdoor cafe, and Torres watches as Sam works the mechanics of his wings. Torres records the scenery, and also captures footage of Sam accepting thanks from locals, impressed by his Arabic. He gives information on LAF's purpose, and while scanning the area with his phone, he captures an emblem that appears on his screen, which acts as a symbol for a group known as the Flag Smashers. He tells Sam how they thought the world was better during the Blip and an essentially want a unified world without borders. Sam has him keep his eye on it, and requests that he tell him, if the situation escalates. Joaquin confirms to do so, then proceeds to question Sam about Steve's whereabouts, sharing conspiracy theories on how people believe he's on the moon. Sam denies these, and the pair part ways. Later on, Joaquin attends a rally held by the Flag Smashers in Switzerland, outside a bank. He goes undercover, with his camera, to make sense of the situation, and notices an individual handing out masks, that belong to the group, which he accepts. Suddenly, two bags are thrown through a window, and individuals run wild in the crowd. The bags are handed out to two members in masks, and Joaquin tries to apprehend the prime robber, but is stopped by the police, who believe he is guilty. He manages to escape from the officers grasp, and when he sees the individual attack an offer, he removes his mask and holds out his gun, ready to place the man under arrest. The individual takes ahold of Joaquin's arm with enhanced strength, and disarms, before throwing him to the ground, and kicking his face in, leaving him unconscious. Following this, Joaquin contacts Sam, and gives him the footage he captured, believing the man to be the leader.

Sam and Bucky Barnes leave for Munich, Germany, to investigate the Flag Smashers, and Joaquin goes aboard the plane to escort the pair.

Following a mission by Sam and Bucky, they ask Joquin to gather information on Donya Martini.

Joaquin arrives in one of the settlements camps in Latvia, where he meets up with Sam and Bucky. Sam questions what their next step is, and Joaquin shares the fallout of Captain America killing a foreign national in public, has garnered an international interest, and higher ups have begun dealing with the situation, and taking jurisdiction. He walks over to Sam's wings, having noted their damaged appearance. While he browses the broken machinery, Sam asks him if anything can be done, about the Flag Smashers, but Joaquin states they can't, as the camp has been cornered off, and Karli has vanished, and making an effort to stay incognito, after the events with Walker. Sam believes this this is the reason to get involved now, but Joaquin points out she has followers around the world, on all platforms. He questions how Sam's wings broke, but Sam doesn't reply, and Joaquin quickly goes off the matter, and decides that all they can do now is wait. Sam thanks him, and leaves with the shield, and when Joaquin reminds him that he forgot his wings, Sam tells him to keep them. Later on Joaquin contacts Sam, and shares his scans, in places of interest, which were all targeted by the Flag Smashers. He reveals that earlier that day, he got one from New York, where the headquarters for the Global Repatriation Council is located.

Captain America: Brave New World[]

Who's the pretty boy?

Joaquin in "Brave New World"

Joaquin appears in this film, now as the Falcon, taking on the title after Sam Wilson becoming Captain America. Three years after the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Joaquín and Sam are working together and he is learning how to follow in Sam's footsteps as the Falcon. Sam takes Joaquin to meet Isaiah Bradley, a legendary soldier, known as "black Captain America" during his youth. Joaquin and Sam train with Isaiah

Joaquin and Sam are invited by president Thaddeus Ross to the White House after they are able to retrieve a compound similar to vibranium, when Isaiah is controlled by someone to assassinate Ross, and is arrested. Torres and Wilson work together to find out who is behind the order and controlling Bradley as they know he is innocent. Sam and Joaquin soon learn it is Samuel Sterms who was behind the attack at the White House, as he wanted revenge on the president, and that he was the one who controlled Bradley, causing him to make the attempt at killing Ross. During a battle against the Japanese, Falcon is accidentally shot down and left in a critical condition, where the doctors have to restart his heart, which Sam watches on, fearing the worst. However, Joaquin survives and spends the next several days in hospital, while Sam fights an angry Ross, who has become Red-Hulk after being tricked by Sterns. Sam later visits Joaquin at the hospital, as he starts to come around, and he promises to teach him all his tricks about being the Falcon and tells him about rebuilding the Avengers, inviting him to join the team, as long as Joaquin is fully recovered, which he accepts.

Avengers: Doomsday[]

Joaquin is set to appear in the film as a member of Sam Wilson's Avengers, with Danny Ramirez reprising his role.

Trivia[]

  • Despite not appearing in the episode, Joaquin's voice is heard in Power Broker.
  • Joaquin is one of the few people within the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take on the mantle of a previous superhero.
  • According to the first episode, he survived Thanos' snap in Avengers: Infinity War.
  • In the comics, Torres became fused with the Redwing by the Serpent Society, which meant he became a human-falcon hybrid. He then took on the mantle of Falcon when Sam accepted the title of Captain America.
  • Joaquin's fall in Captain America: Brave New World mirrors War Machine's fall in Captain America: Civil War, where both are left in a near-death situation. However, Rhodey was left paralyzed from the waist down, but was given special devices to help him walk again, while Joaquin's heart had to be restarted and he had to stay in the hospital for a while. It also seems to parallel Nick "Goose" Bradshaw's fall in Top Gun, only Joaquin survives while Goose didn't.
  • Danny Ramirez starred alongside fellow MCU star Lewis Pullman in the 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick. Danny portrayed Lt. Mickey "Fanboy" Garcia, while Pullman played LT Robert "Bob" Floyd
