Joe Giraffe is a character who was featured in the 1936 Silly Symphony short Elmer Elephant.

Personality[]

Joe is a giraffe showing integrity to anyone who he meets, especially Elmer Elephant. He is shown to give advice to Elmer whenever he has trouble dealing with humiliations where he tells him that the other animals used to make fun of him, but he ignored them. He is also shown to provide support to Elmer in helping him extinguish the fire at Tillie Tiger's house.

Physical appearance[]

Joe, as a giraffe, has a very long neck with two ossicones going through his yellow hat wearing a red bowtie on his neck, as well as having a short white beard sticking out of his chin as well as having two facial hair from both sides of his head. He also has a pair of brown ears located in both sides of the head. He also wears a pair of black overalls located on his back legs as well as wearing a black bowtie, followed by two other red bow ties he wears on his neck.

Elmer Elephant[]

After Elmer started crying when the other animals taunted him for his unusual appearance, he encounters Joe who tells him if he has a nose trouble. As Elmer approaches him, he recaps that the other animals used to make fun of him, but he ignored them. Joe continues asking Elmer that if he wants to deal with his bad reputation, he offers him to show it to the pelicans, which they treat Elmer with kindness. However, when a fire breaks out at Tillie Tiger's house, Joe became aware of the fire.

Furthermore, Joe helps Elmer stand on his head so that he can help extinguish the fire, while the pelicans follow along. As Joe provides support to Elmer, the three pelicans assist him and Elmer providing water to extinguish the fire. Elmer, standing in Joe's head Just as Elmer manages to extinguish the fire, he even manages to rescue Tillie from the fire where everyone praises Elmer for being a hero.

  • Joe's name was not mentioned in the short. The closed captions for the short released on the 2011 Blu-ray releases of Dumbo generically describe him as an unnamed man.
