John Marwood Cleese is an English actor, comedian, producer, and screenwriter, known for his distinctive raspy voice. He is best known for his role as Basil Fawlty in the BBC2 sitcom Fawlty Towers, as well as his various roles in the Monty Python movies, and for playing Nearly Headless Nick in the first two Harry Potter films. He also voiced Cat R. Waul, the main antagonist of the 1991 Universal Pictures animated film An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, Jean-Bob the frog in the 1994 animated fantasy film The Swan Princess, King Harold and King Gristle Sr. in DreamWorks' Shrek franchise and Trolls (respectively), Professor Kipple in Planet 51, Dr. Glickenstein in the 2008 MGM sci-fi animated film Igor, and the Fairy Godmother in the 2018 computer-animated musical comedy film Charming. Additionally, he portrayed Mr. Bridwell in the 2021 live-action film Clifford the Big Red Dog.
For Disney, he guest-starred in Episode 223 of The Muppet Show, voiced Ape in the George of the Jungle films, and narrated the 2011 animated film Winnie the Pooh, as well as various Mickey Mouse Works cartoons, including Midsummer Night's Dream, Around the World in Eighty Days, The Nutcracker, and Mickey's Mechanical House. He also played Dr. Julius Plumford in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book and a grizzled sergeant in the 2004 comedy adventure film Around the World in 80 Days. Additionally, he voiced Mercury in Valiant and Bulldog in Planes, as well as portrayed Martin in the ABC TV show Speechless.
