Jonathan "John" de Lancie is an American actor, director, producer, writer, singer, musician, and voice artist. For Disney, he played Dr. Victor Mott in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and Ted Bradford Jr. in Taking Care of Business for Hollywood Pictures, Lyle Windsor in You Lucky Dog, and voiced Mr. Olsen in Olaf's Frozen Adventure.
De Lancie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and struggled in school due to dyslexia. Encouraged by a teacher, he began to pursue acting as a career at Kent State University and won a scholarship at Juilliard in New York City. He performed in numerous stage productions while as establishing a career in film and television.
While de Lancie has appeared in films, such as The Fisher King, The Onion Field, Saving Private Ryan, Visions, and Buttons: A Christmas Tale, he is known more for his television work. He most recognized roles are Eugene Bradford on Days of Our Lives, Donald Margolis on Breaking Bad, Agent Allen Shapiro in the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood, the voice of Discord in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and, more notably, as Q in the Star Trek media franchise. Originally appearing in Star Trek: The Next Generation, he has reprised the role the shows: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Picard.
He has also appeared in Barnaby Jones, The Six Million Dollar Man, Emergency!, The Twilight Zone, Murder, She Wrote, Trial and Error, Mission: Impossible, L.A. Law, Batman: The Animated Series, Touched by an Angel, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, The West Wing, Andromeda, Stargate SG-1, Charmed, Invader Zim, Law & Order: LA, Justice League Action, DC Super Hero Girls, Masters of the Universe Revolution, and the 1986 miniseries The Thorn Birds.
