John "Jonathan" Pryce, CBE is a Welsh stage and film actor and singer, who, for Disney, played Mr. Dark in Something Wicked This Way Comes, Marty Bronson in Bedtime Stories, Weatherby Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, and Colonel Juan Peron in Evita.

Pryce was born John Price on June 1, 1947 and was educated at Holywell Grammar School and, at the age of 16, went to Edge Hill College (now Edge Hill University) in Ormskirk, Lancashire. While studying, he took part in a college theatre production and applied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). While at RADA, he worked as a door-to-door salesman of velvet paintings.

He began appearing on television and stage productions, such as Comedians, Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, The Taming of the Shrew, Measure for Measure, Macbeth, Miss Saigon, Nine, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Glengarry Glen Ross, King Lear, and Dimetos.

He made his film debut in Voyage of the Damned with Faye Dunaway, and continued appearing in films, like Haunted Honeymoon, Jumpin' Jack Flash, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), The Age of Innocence, A Troll in Central Park, Tomorrow Never Dies, What a Girl Wants, The Brothers Grimm, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Ghost and the Whale, The Man Who Invented Christmas, and The Two Popes.

  • Pryce was initially considered to play René Belloq in Raiders of the Lost Ark, along with French singer Jacques Dutronc and Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini.[1] However, Paul Freeman was cast instead at the end.
