Joseph Simon Dubin was an American composer and orchestrator, scoring and orchestrating more than 200 motion pictures during his career, including numerous Disney films.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; like his brother, Al Dubin, he studied music and wrote for musicians and later films, such as The Big House, Silver City Kid, The Tiger Woman, Ghost of Zorro, Mexicana, Tucson Raiders, Earl Carroll Vanities, Zorro's Black Whip, Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The San Antonio Kid, Firebrands of Arizona, Vigilantes of Dodge City, Atlantic City, Silver City Kid, Jamboree, My Best Gal, Haunted Harbor, Jungle Jim, The Denver Kid, Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back, The El Paso Kid, Rendezvous with Annie, and some episodes of Mister Magoo. He largely went uncredited for most of his film work.
Beginning his work with Disney in the late 1930s, Dubin orchestrated films, like Dumbo, Bambi, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. Later, he began composing music used for shows, like Mickey Mouse Club, True-Life Adventures, Zorro, the Disney anthology series, and various Goofy and Donald Duck shorts.
He died at the age of 60, on January 16, 1961 in Sherman Oaks, California.
