Joshua Winslow Groban is an American singer-songwriter and actor. His first four solo albums have been certified multi-platinum, and he was charted in 2007 as the number-one best selling artist in the United States. As of 2022, he had sold over 25 million records worldwide. For Disney, he portrayed the Maximum Security Prisoner in Muppets Most Wanted and portrayed Beast in the Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration television special. He had previously performed "Evermore" in the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast during the credits and on its soundtrack. He also appeared as a musical guest in Mickey's 90th Spectacular.
Groban was born in Los Angeles, California and attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts as a theater major and graduated in 1999. He was admitted to and briefly attended Carnegie Mellon University, intent on studying musical theater but left after being offered a recording contract. He gained national attention after standing in for Andrea Bocelli at the 1999 Grammy Awards, performing "The Prayer" with Céline Dion.
His self-titled debut album eventually went to double-platinum and contained the single "To Where You Are". His album Closer contain his rendition of "You Raise Me Up" which became his best-selling single. He also sang "Believe" for the film adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express.
Still wanting to act, Groban appeared in films such as Crazy, Stupid, Love, Coffee Town, The Hollars, and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. His television credits include Ally McBeal, American Dad!, Glee, The Office, The Crazy Ones, Happyland, The Good Cop, Niko and the Sword of Light, and The Simpsons. Following a production of Chess, Groban appeared on Broadway with productions of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and a 2023 revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; both of which earned him Tony Award nominations for Best Actor in a Musical.
