Justin Vincenzo Pepe Russo[2] is one of the main characters in the Disney Channel Original Series Wizards of Waverly Place and the main protagonist in the upcoming series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. He is the oldest son of Theresa and Jerry Russo. He is the older brother of Alex and Max Russo, and the most accomplished wizard among the three siblings.

After winning the family wizard competition, due to Alex helping him get his foot unstuck, he gives the title of Family Wizard to Alex. Professor Crumbs then makes Justin the Headmaster of WizTech.

In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, Justin is married to Giada Russo, and has an older son named Roman Russo and a younger son named Milo Russo.

Background[]

Personality[]

Justin is kind, generous, smart, and hardworking. His relationship with Alex is complicated, and he is often annoyed by her; he sometimes gets back at her in revenge for whatever she does that causes problems for him.

Powers and abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Expert on Spells: Justin is also an expert on spells, he seems to know on, for any occasion, e.g, jumping off a cliff, sinking spells, he, however, isn't as good as his sister at make-ups, he also knows about spell locks.
  • Expert on Magic: Justin knows a lot on magic of all kinds, e.g, charms, potions, curses, etc. Although magic doesn't come naturally to him, he studies so much it makes up for it.

Abilities[]

  • Hand-to-Hand Combatant: as shown in "Wizards vs. Werewolves" he is quite skilled in hand to hand combat, being able to hold on his own against a werewolf for a little while, and seeing as werewolves are stronger, faster and more agile than humans by quite a bit, that is something to be impressed by. Although in an earlier story Alex laughed at the idea of him getting in a fight, so it's possible he only recently learned how to fight possibly because of his monster catcher training. He also holds his own during the gang fight in "Western Show", further demonstrating his combat abilities.
  • Marksmanship: As shown in "Wizard For A Day", Justin has crack shot.
  • Genius-Level Intellect: In many stories, it's shown that Justin knows many things, his knowledge includes but isn't limited to, history, science, mathematics, and general knowledge. In "Alex's Brother, Maximan", he builds a working robot out of household items, in "Franken Girl ", he combines magic and science to build a Frankenstein-like robot.

Biography[]

Justin was born to Jerry and Theresa Russo in New York City, in the United States. Justin became the head in magical teaching, though he was teased by his younger brother. In the first two seasons, Justin spent time getting girlfriends and solving his siblings' magical troubles.

In the third season, Justin tried to find his vampire girlfriend Juliet after she was kidnapped by a mummy. Justin also tried to abort a Wizard Revolt, begun by a wizard named Stevie who lost the Wizard Contest. In the end of the season, he exposed the Wizard World to American agents after being tricked about an alien invasion. However, this was revealed to be a test to see if the Russos could keep the magical existence secret. Because they failed, Justin and Alex (who made a press conference to expose magic) were lowered to level 1 of magic (Justin was in level 5, the maximum).

Trivia[]

  • Justin was correct when he said that he will win the Russo Family Wizard Competition, and keep his powers. Only he passes the role of the family wizard to Alex.
  • In "Disenchanted Evening" Justin states that he is allergic to cinnamon, and in "Graphic Novel" he says he loves pumpkin pie.
  • He collects action figures that Alex Russo likes to refer to them as "dolls."
  • He prefers to take baths over showers.
  • Justin spent 8 years without eating pizza because he thought the pizza delivery guy let his old dog, Willy, run away.
  • Perhaps in terms of his bad luck, Justin's the only child in the Russo trio to be forgotten by his parents, Theresa and Jerry twice. Once in Justin's Little Sister and then in the movie respectively, to which both times are caused by Alex in some ways.
  • He originally wanted to major in Robotics Engineering at Clementine College.
  • He falls in love so easily.
  • According to Alex, with the WizTech robe and glasses, he looked like someone (Harry Potter), but she forgot the name of the person.
  • In the episode "Alex Tells the World" Justin and Alex were demoted to level 1 in their family wizard's competition; Justin was at level 5 before this. To regain his lost points, he begins to tutor Wiz-Tech's delinquent wizards in "Alex Gives Up".
    • It should be noted that Justin is quite unlucky; he normally ends up the worst at the end of each story, having only bested Alex a few times. Sometimes he loses even when no one tries to make him i.e.Captain Jim Bob Sherwood. When it comes to romance, the only times he has ever had a true love, he has been forced to part with them, although he was reunited with Juliet in "Wizards vs. Everything".
    • His favorite color is green.
  • Justin is one of two main characters of the principal cast to appear in every episode until he was absent in the movie The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex.
  • Justin and Alex are the only two of the Russo trio to keep their powers, Alex becoming the family wizard and Justin becoming a full wizard due to becoming the new Headmaster of WizTech in the series finale.
  • Justin is like his father Jerry Russo, Alex is like her aunt Megan Russo, and Max is like his uncle Kelbo Russo in terms of personality.
    • Justin just like his father Jerry Russo, he ends up giving up his powers to marry a mortal named Giada.
  • Due to the fact that he believes in aliens, and would likely give up his wizardry for them, he became a member of the Alien Language League.
  • Justin is 5'11 making him the tallest main character on the show.
  • He is allergic to cinnamon and flowers.
  • In the original script "The Amazing O'Malleys", Justin's name was Jordon and was the fraternal twin brother of Julia (Alex's original character name).
