Br'er Owl warns Br'er Rabbit to beware of a criminal on the loose named Karel Kat before a storm occurs, leaving Br'er Rabbit to find shelter inside a nearby cave. He finds that it is dark inside with no light and there seems to be nobody else, or so he thinks when an unknown creepy voice asks him to light a match, revealing it to be the criminal Karel Kat, who is happy and hungry enough to see him. Luckily, before he can be eaten, Br'er Rabbit still has the match as his only defense to make his escape and avoid a gruesome death. Having saved himself from the vicious Karel Kat, Br'er Rabbit continues on his way to the big city.
