Kate is a supporting character from the 2016 animated short Inner Workings. She is a sunglasses vendor who sells sunglasses to Paul and is his love interest.
Background[]
While little information is known about Kate, the attractive vendor is shown to be kind, cheerful, and gentle. She is well known for her junoesque appearance with features like her large red hair, pointed face and nose, grayish blue eyes, slender arms, neck, and torso, and a small bust, complete with giant hips leading to a fat bottom. Kate wears a slim fit red and white striped crop-top halter shirt, huge blue jean-shorts, a green baseball cap (which was red in early concept art), emerald dangle earrings that resemble leaves, and green sandals (which were white in early concept art).
Role in the short film[]
Paul thinks of purchasing neon-blue sunglasses from Kate, but his brain thinks it could cause a chain reaction that would lead to Paul's death causing him to pass. She then looks at Paul curiously because of his strange behavior as he walks away.
Later, Paul purchases neon-green sunglasses from her as she watches Paul go swimming, and the end credits show that Paul married Kate and had two children with her.
Trivia[]
- Early concept art revealed that Kate was originally going to be an office worker at Boring, Boring & Glum whose cubicle was right next to Paul's. Her design was also much more conservative and not curvaceous in proportions.[1]
