Kay Harrison is a supporting character in the 2024 sci-fi horror film Alien: Romulus. She is part of a group of scavengers who accidentally unleash the dangerous Xenomorphs.

Background[]

Personality[]

Kay is a kindly and sociable young lady. Despite coming off as very innocent compared to her friends, she possesses a strong, determined, and even slightly hardened spirit. When Rain Carradine asked who got her pregnant, she simply responded, "Some a**hole," implying that she even has a wild side to her. Despite getting roughed up by everything including the Xenomorph, she manages to remain very active and does everything she can to survive her horrible experience, though this ironically leads to her downfall.

Role in the film[]

Kay Harrison lived on Jackson's Star with her brother Tyler, their cousin Bjorn and his girlfriend Navarro. Sometime prior, Kay learned that she was pregnant from "some asshole", but kept this information to herself. She just like her friends, were upset over the mining work that they were subjected to and decided that they would make the trip to Yvaga, a retirement planet. Recruited into their mission was her mutual friend Rain Carradine and her synthetic brother Andy. Upon learning of the disused lab Romulus and Remus floating in orbit, Kay joined her friends. On the way up, she revealed her pregnancy to Rain, asking her not to tell anyone.

Kay stayed on their cargo ship Corbelan while the rest went to find cryo-pods and later some fuel for the trip. Unfortunately, the group would accidentally unleash the vicious Facehuggers, one of which latches itself onto Navarro and implants a seed in her. Bjorn, delirious from what just happened, dragged Navarro back to the ship to take off, only for Navarro to suffer from convulsions. Kay attempts to tend to her, but it is too late for her friend who has a Xenomorph burst from her chest, causing the Corbelan to suddenly dislodge and crash through the lab's rockets, before landing on the Romulus side.

Kay cautiously attempts to hide from the Xenomorph. While Bjorn tries to protect her from a Xenomorph cocoon, she witnesses his death at the hands of the now fully grown creature. Kay manages to flee the cargo ship, but cannot escape the bay due to the locked door. Rain, Tyler, and a reprogrammed Andy arrive, but Andy refuses to open the door, claiming that Kay's chances of survival are very low. Kay is then stabbed and captured by the Xenomorph. She is not killed however and instead is encased in the creature's nest.

Rain, Tyler, and Andy discover Kay alive, though gravely injured from the attack. They free her and make it back to the lift out of the lab, only for Xenomorphs to arrive and kill Tyler who was protecting the two women. Rain orders Kay to head back to the Corbelan while she goes back to get Andy, leaving her with an experimental drug found in the lab. As Kay heads up, she eyes the drug as her salvation to save herself and her baby and takes it.

Rain and a returned to normal Andy make it back to the Corbelan, destroying the Romulus and Remus and finding Kay looking better. Kay goes into one of the cryo-pods, believing the danger is over. However, she suddenly begins to have problems and is in extreme pain. She admits to Rain that she took the drug, causing her pregnancy to rapidly expand and gives birth to a strange looking acidic egg. The egg hatches, creating a human-xenomorph hybrid creature that goes back to Kay. While it seems to recognize her as its mother, Kay ends up becoming a victim of her horrific monster child and is devoured.

Trivia[]

  • While not confirmed, it's possible that Kay and Tyler were not related by blood, as evidenced by their distinctly different accents. Kay spoke with an American accent while Tyler spoke with a British accent, just like Bjorn.
  • A Reddit user correctly guessed, and was later confirmed by Fede Álvarez, that the "asshole" that Kay was referring to was Bjorn.[1]
