"Kenya Be My Friend?" is the first segment of the second episode of Timon & Pumbaa. It aired on September 15, 1995.
Synopsis
Pumbaa excitedly wakes Timon up, scaring him out of his skin. Timon asks him why he had the nerve to wake him up, to which Pumbaa reminds him that it is Bestest Best Friend Day. Pumbaa gives his pal a "Mr. Bug Juicer." Timon is extremely happy but he is reminded that he owes Pumbaa a present. Timon tries to give him a log, dirt, and other common Serengeti items but Pumbaa tells him that those were the gifts of previous years. Timon says he wrote a poem for his buddy, and proceeds to make one up on the spot. Pumbaa is angry to discover that Timon forgot about Bestest Best Friend Day and the two split up.
Pumbaa angrily vents as he walks away. He meets Monty whom he accidentally sits on. The things that Pumbaa did not like in Timon are things that Monty loathes. The two become friends. Near the watering hole, Timon scouts out potential friends and meets a blue warthog named Baampu, who meets his standards.
Pumbaa finds a large grub but is shocked that Monty does not even eat bugs but rather fruits and nuts. Monty is also opposed to gas, one of Pumbaa's favorite things. Timon and Baampu look up at the stars. Timon expects his new warthog friend to say he thinks they are large balls of gas, as Pumbaa does, but Baampu is indifferent.
The two pairs of friends run into each other at the watering hole, where Monty and Baampu reunite, after years, saying that they were once best friends. They leave to enjoy fruit and soybean pancakes, leaving Timon and Pumbaa to talk out their differences. Both tell the other that they disliked their new best friends. Pumbaa asks his pal if he really forgot Bestest Best Friends Day. The meerkat rushes away and regifts the "Mr. Bug Juicer" to appease his friend.
