The King Cobras are characters from the Jungle Cruise attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
These cobras are based on the real-life snake of the same name whose scientific name is Ophiophagus hannah. They are usually displayed in a temple area which represents Asia and are usually seen waiting for a prey to strike, implying that they are shown to be hostile to visitors who pass by the cobras in their hideout.
Due to the success of the Jungle Cruise attraction at Disneyland, the attraction was later constructed at Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland, still featuring the cobras in it.
Appearances[]
Jungle Cruise[]
In the Disneyland version, the cobras are encountered in the ruins of an ancient temple in another section after passing through a hostile tiger as well as a crocodile inhabiting a temple where three cobras are seen staring across the jungle waiting for prey to strike. The guests on onboard the boat manage to evade the cobras in time. Additionally, a metal cobra statue carrying a mystical orb is also encountered in the Asian ruins scene.
In the Magic Kingdom version and the pre-2014 Tokyo Disneyland version, the cobras can be seen inside the temple where they are seen guarding a monkey idol where the boats manage to evade the cobras in time. However, as of the 2021 revamp for the Florida version, the monkey idol was replaced with a golden cobra idol for unknown reasons, despite replacing the Headhunter Tribe scene with a chimpanzee scene due to outdated cultural depiction from the attraction itself.
Adventure Trading Company[]
The likeness of a cobra is seen on a snake juju which was earned by ordering a special lemonade known as "Venomade" at the Bengal Barbecue area.
Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions[]
In Tokyo Disneyland, the cobras and the rest of the animatronic animals inside the ancient temple were removed as part of the retheming of Tokyo's version of the attraction in 2014. Despite being removed from this version of the attraction, cobras are displayed outside the temple where two can be seen on the left side: one performing a striking pose preparing to attack and the other one seen in a neutral pose. The boats enter the ancient temple in time to evade the cobras and then exit from the temple.
