The Kitten is the main protagonist of the 2019 Disney/Pixar short Kitbull. She[1] is a black cat who used to become enemies with a pit bull until she realizes that the pit bull was trying to bond with her.
Background[]
The kitten is a small black cat who encounters a pit bull in his owner's yard. At first, the kitten became frightened, thinking that the dog is her enemy, but she then realizes that the pit bull can be friends with her. She becomes compassionate upon realizing the dog's emotions and started a friendship with him. Afterward, she and the dog become adopted by their new owners, adapting her new life with a dog.
Appearances[]
Kitbull[]
The kitten is first seen roaming across the streets of Mission District of San Francisco where she arrives at a yard and hides in a box in a neighborhood area. She later sees a pit bull whom she tries to keep it away from her, unaware of the dog being innocent. As the kitten sees the pit bull chained, she sees him sleeping and accidentally knocks off a bottlecap which comes loose out of a bottle trying to retrieve the bottlecap without disturbing the dog. Unaware of the dog's emotions, it is then realized that the dog is being friendly with the kitten and not trying to kill her.
One night, the kitten sees the pit bull who is injured at night. Seeing the scratches on the dog, the box where the kitten is at falls and as the kitten gets stuck on plastic pack rings, the pit bull approaches her and rescues the kitten who is stuck, though she scratches the dog in fear as the dog retreats to his home. Seeing the injuries the pit bull has, the kitten then approaches the dog and as she sees the scratches on him, she bonds with the pit bull, who still has his scratches on and upon hearing a door opening, the kitten fears that the yard's owner can find them, leading the two to escape. Some time later, the kitten finds a new owner who adopts her while the pit bull adopts his new life with the kitten.
Trivia[]
- Unlike the kitten seen in Kitbull, black cats are the pets least likely to be adopted, due to stigma about bad luck. They often end up euthanized since no one will adopt them, despite being healthy.
- Director Rosana Sullivan's inspiration for creating the kitten character was from watching a lot of cat videos on YouTube.
- The kitten also appears as a toy used by one of the salamanders seen in the 2020 Disney/Pixar short, Burrow during the part where Rabbit frantically digs to find a better room.
