Koala Man is an Australian-American superhero adult animated series that premiered on January 9, 2023 on Disney+ and Hulu.

Synopsis

Koala Man follows a family patriarch who lives a not-so-secret identity as the titular hero who possesses a burning passion to snuff out petty crime and bring order the community.

Plot

The series takes place in an alternate universe called "Bushworld", where the wreck of the Titanic never happened, indirectly resulting in the United States of America being destroyed (except Hollywood becoming an island), Australia becoming the world’s superpower, and Nicole Kidman becoming its Queen. The story follows Kevin Williams, an average middle-aged family man who decides to issue justice to the town of Dapto as the incredibly average superhero Koala Man. Possessing no powers and a simple costume, which is apparently enough to hide his identity, Kevin encounters a variety of evildoers that wish to do harm to his town. Kevin is joined by his family who put up with his misadventures including his down-to-earth wife Vicky, his popularity obsessed daughter Alison and his nerdy son Liam who secretly possesses psychic powers.

Production

On March 23, 2021, Deadline reported that a Koala Man animated series was in development for Hulu. Michael Cusack, who is the creator, will voice the titular character, with Hugh Jackman, Sarah Snook and Demi Lardner joining the voice cast.

On December 8, 2022, it was reported that the series would premiere on January 9, 2023.

On January 25, 2023, Deadline reported that Hulu Originals and 20th Television Animation had ended their affiliation with Justin Roiland, who served as an executive producer on the series, and voiced the character Chad Wagon, as a result of domestic abuse allegations, and that he would not be returning for future seasons if the series was to be renewed.
