"L'Opera" is a song from the film, Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers, which is in the opera house to the final battle. The opera used in the film is Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta "Pirates of Penzance".

Plot[]

In the scene, abstracts of different songs can be heard like: "With Cat-Like Thread", "Poor Wandering One", "Climbing Over Rocky Mountain", and "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General" when Pete starts the opera with the Troubadour conducting the show. After the abstracts, the score then loops into a battle between Mickey and Pete in an attempt to rescue Minnie after defeating the Beagle Boys to which Mickey, Donald, and Goofy defeat Pete as the score then loops into a romantic tune when Mickey and Minnie fall in love where the score ends with the chorus vocalizing "L'Amour" just as the show ends with Minnie and Daisy rescued and reunited together with the Musketeers.

Lyrics[]

("With Cat-Like Tread" verse)
Pirate Chorus: Come, friends, who plough the sea
Truce to navigation
Take another station
Let's vary privacy
With a little burglary

With cat-like tread
Hey, upon the prey we steal
Hey, in silence dread
Hey, our cautious way we feel
Hey, no sound at all
Hey, we never speak a word
Hey, a fly's foot-fall would be distinctly heard
Tarantara

So stealthily, the pirate creeps
While all the household soundly sleeps
Tarantara

Come, friends, who plough the sea
Truce to navigation
Take another station
Let's vary privacy
With a little burglary

Tarantara
With cat-like tread
Upon the prey we steal

Tarantara, Tarantara

("Poor Wandering One" verse)
Female Chorus: Poor wandering ones
If such poor love as ours

("Climbing Over Rocky Mountain" verse)
Climbing over Rocky Mountain
Skipping rivulet and fountain
Passing where the willows quiver
(vocalizing)
Scaling rough and rugged passes
Climb the hardy little lasses
Till the bright seashore they gain

Let us gaily tread the measure
Make the most of fleeting leisure

(vocalizing)
Make the most of fleeting leisure
Hail it as a true ally, a true ally

Modern Major-General: In fact, when I know what is meant by "mamelon" and "ravelin"
When I can tell at sight a Mauser rifle from a javelin
When such affairs as sorties and surprises I'm more wary at

When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery

Chorus: You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a, sat a gee

(ends when the Beagle Boys get defeated)

Trivia[]

  • A short snippet from "With cat-like tread" can be heard whenever the opera is mentioned by characters several times as the camera pans to a "Pirates of Penzance" opera poster that is sold out throughout the film, where a chorus can be heard briefly singing "Come, friends, who plough the sea" prior to having it physically sung in the opera house.
