Lallie Joy Popham is a supporting character who appears in the 1963 Disney live-action film Summer Magic.
Background[]
Lallie is Osh Popham's shy daughter who lives with her older brother Digby Popham at the town of Beulah. Despite being shy, she occasionally copes in helping Nancy take care of the house when Julia Carey arrived at Beulah. In spite of this, she is shown to have a dislike in being pressured by Julia, demanding her to help her bathe in the kitchen. After Julia decided to remain with the Carey family, she and Nancy were even able to get Lallie's dress ready for the Halloween party, teaching her to walk formally. Despite this, she is shown to have a crush on Gilly Carey as revealed in the end of the film.
Role in the film[]
Lallie Joy is first seen staring upon Nancy who moved from Boston to Beulah, just as Osh introduces her to Nancy. After Osh's conversation with the Careys, his daughter Lallie sits with her brother Digby just as the three are on their way home. During the conversation between Osh and his son Digby, Lallie thinks that Gilly would be the right person who would take over Digby's job, just as Osh thinks that money might come in handy for the Careys family. The next day, after Gilly caused an accident upon crashing into several pails, Digby tells Lallie to fix the truck's tire. Just as Gilly plans to do Lallie's job, the latter explains that Digby is the one who allows her to fix the tire - only for Gilly to explain that he might substitute Lallie in cases where she is unavailable, which Digby thinks he might do this job, but must learn how to watch her fix the tire.
Later, Lallie approaches Nancy who is painting the house. She later becomes aware when Sam, Peter's pet dog, to run into the house and cause commotion inside, but not before Sam stops. Just as Lallie's father Osh gives Margaret a special letter about Julia, Osh decides to give Margaret a private conversation. The next day, Lallie is seen giving hot water to Julia's bathtub, requesting her that the water be not too hot, which Nancy becomes shocked that she cannot take a bath at the kitchen, only for Julia to brag about herself being tired of bringing kettles of hot water from upstairs. Later on, Osh fakes himself of having an injured leg, insisting his wife to take him home, causing him to get Lallie and the others' attention.
As Halloween approaches, Julia and her cousin Nancy approach Lallie Joy who is tearfully reacting to the dress made for her which she is wearing, only for her and Julia to take off the dress while Nancy explains to Lallie that what is inside her that counts, not her dress. Julia and Nancy both take part in singing the musical number "Femininity" to Lallie, who has a crush on Gilly, followed taking part in the song, as they help redesign Lallie's dress. To this, they were able to do so.
Furthermore, Lallie wears her redesigned dress where Julia and Nancy task her to walk formally and interact with Gilly, becoming her love interest. She later dances with Gilly during a Halloween party at the barn. Lallie later attends the ceremony hosted by Margaret Carey showcasing a tribute to Mr. Hamilton's mother, just as she and Gilly become impressed by the unveiled painting. After the ceremony, Lallie continues dancing with her crush Gilly during the end of the film.

- According to Gilly Carey, he would occasionally fix a flat tire that occurs on Digby's mercantile truck whenever Lallie Joy is not available.
