Laura Miller is a major character and minor antagonist from the first The Santa Clause film, and later a minor character and redeemed protagonist in the remaining trilogy. She is Neil's wife and Charlie and Lucy's mother, and Scott Calvin's ex-wife. At first, Laura seems to be concerned about Charlie believing in Santa Claus at an older age, and even encourages her husband to tell him the truth. However, it is revealed that Laura stopped believing in Santa Claus at a young age due to the fact that she didn’t receive the one gift she really wanted one Christmas, which was the Mystery Date game. However, Laura, after finding out the truth about her ex-husband, allows him to see Charlie whenever he wants and burns the custody papers.

Role in the films[]

The Santa Clause[]

Laura is first seen in the car with her second husband Neil, as they are dropping Charlie off to spend Christmas Eve with Scott. It is unknown how long she and Scott had been divorced, but she still resents him for what happened between them, and for being a workaholic, wishing he would be a better father to Charlie. She goes inside to talk to Scott and she gets into an argument with him about Neil telling Charlie that Santa Claus doesn't exist. She and Neil return the next day to pick Charlie up, after Charlie's wild night with Scott when Scott became Santa Claus. As time goes by, she becomes concerned when Charlie displays a year-round enthusiasm for Christmas, and telling everyone that Scott is Santa Claus, which she doesn't believe. Eventually, between this and Scott's increasingly erratic(to her) behavior, she and Neil have Scott's custody of Charlie revoked.

At the end of the movie, when Scott/Santa drops gifts for Charlie, Laura, and Neil, Laura gets the Mystery Date board game, she always wanted as a child and holds with a look of childlike wonder in her eyes. All the charges against Scott were instantly dropped when the witnesses along with the cops see him fly off and his sleigh, proving that Scott really was Santa.

Laura then apologizes to Charlie for not believing him when he said that Scott was Santa. She also tries to set rules for Scott when he comes to take Charlie out for a ride on his sleigh, but Scott flies away beforehand.

The Santa Clause 2[]

Sometime between the first and second film, Laura and Neil have had a daughter together named Lucy. Since the end of the first film, Laura and Scott get along much better, and Scott also shares a closeness with Lucy.

Much later, she was surprised to hear that Scott has to get married in order to keep being Santa. Laura tells Scott that since he became Santa that everything has been going good and wonders if he can actually go through with getting married because it took him three years to propose to her. She discussed setting him up with her divorced friends. Scott thanks her before she notices Scott slowly changing back to his old self. She supports Scott's mission to fulfill "the Mrs. Clause".

At the end, Scott marries Carol Newman, their son's principal and remains Santa. Laura also confirmed to Lucy that Scott is Santa, especially when he comes over.

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause[]

In the third film, Laura and Neil guilt Scott into inviting Lucy to the North Pole because it did not seem fair that he brought his son and not her there. They also insist to go as well as supervision and Laura promises to be there for Carol said she was expecting. Once at the north pole, Laura and Neil are greatly amazed at the sight of being at the actual workshop and happily enjoy themselves. Laura herself tells Curtis that she was going to go make a doll.

Unfortunately, as this is happening, Jack Frost tries to become Santa Claus, and when Lucy tries to alert Laura and Neil to this, Jack Frost freezes both of them. Eventually, after Scott restores the original timeline and prevents Jack from becoming Santa, Lucy saves her parents, as the warmth from her hugs unfreezes Jack, which unfreezes Laura and Neil.

In the alternate timeline, in which Scott never becomes Santa, Scott would have continued his workaholic ways and become rich, but Charlie would hate him, and he'd live with Laura, who would have divorced Neil because Charlie didn't want Neil to be his father in Scott's absentee place, creating tension for them. Laura in this timeline is nasty to Scott and is seen wearing a waitress uniform. She does at least tell Scott where he can find Lucy. Scott goes to the North Pole(as Jack Frost becomes Santa in this timeline) and manages to restore the original timeline.
