"Lava Actually" is the thirty-third episode of the Disney Channel and Marvel Animation series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Synopsis[]

When being around the brilliant Hot Tomatoes leaves Pops feeling insecure, he dabbles in an elixir that makes him smart.

Plot[]

Mimi proudly declares that her friends Merle and Matsuye are finally coming to visit them in the L.E.S. Upon their arrival, they take to Mimi's family very easily, including Pops whom they adore. When they begin to share their thoughts and ideas to Mimi, which includes an anti-earthquake machine, Pops starts to feel left out and embarrassed over not understanding their science jargon. Despite Lunella telling him that Mimi loves him for who he is, Pops ask that she create an elixir that will increase his brain power. She reluctantly agrees, though she warns him that it is only temporary and may have alternate effects.

With the new brain potion, Pops' intelligence increases, though this causes his frontal lope to increase in size and he resorts to wearing a hat to hide it. He manages to join in on the conversations with Mimi, Merle, and Matsuye, though none of them are sure how exactly he became so smart so quickly. They head to the roller skating rink where Pops proceeds to fix the cheese machine, more or less, and then tries to skate with Mimi. Due to the increase in his frontal lobe, his skating skills have diminished. They head to Coney Island where Pops publicly humiliates Dr. Stern, causing Mimi to give herself some distance from him. Lunella orders Pops to wait for the drug to wear off.

Pops instead builds the anti-earthquake machine, but due to a miscalculation, ends up filling the streets with lava. Before Pops can come up with a solution, his brain reverts to normal and he comes clean about his actions to Mimi and her friends. With Pops' genuine help, the group manage to turn off the machine and drain the lava into the sewers, saving everyone. Pops apologizes for faking his intelligence, while the women admit that they could have eased off on their science know how. Pops and Mimi renew their love for one another. During the credits, it is revealed that Rat King and his rats are trapped by the lava.
