The lava whale as it appears in the sequel.
The Lava Whale is a deleted character appearing in a deleted scene of Atlantis: The Lost Empire. It was awakened when Gaetan Moliére tried to gain a sample thinking its skin was rock. During this it pushed down several trucks which Mole and Milo clung onto into the lava by its tail and they were saved by Vinny and Sweet in the last minute when Vinny threw a dynamite at a huge stalactite to make a bridge for the crew to pass the lava river. Unfortunately, the lava whale resurfaced, resulting in some of the crew trying to fire at it when the rest managed to get over, killing those after breaking the bridge.
In the second movie, the lava whales appeared in a cameo along with their smaller relatives, the lava dogs (obidalbedsugs).
