"Like Father Like Libby" is the first segment of the thirtieth episode of the Disney Channel animated series, The Ghost and Molly McGee.
Synopsis[]
Libby and her mom go on a road trip to visit her dad, who she hasn't seen in years.
Plot[]
Molly and Scratch are hanging out with Libby at the book store when Libby suddenly gets a package addressed to her containing a letter and a stuffed frog as a gift for her bat mitzvah. Just as Molly acknowledges that her bat mitzvah was months ago and the frog is inaccurate to Libby's interests (she prefers turtles), Libby learns that they are from her dad Matias, whom she has not seen in six years and has finally completed his novel. She tells her mother Leah who seems somewhat indifferent to the news, but does not deter her. Matias asks to see Libby, but he is two states over. Leah reluctantly decides to drive Libby to see her dad and leaves her pet turtles in the care of Molly and Scratch who promise to take good care of them.
Libby and Leah collect snacks for the road trip with Libby having an idea of what she wants to do when she meets her father again. Leah continues to downplay elements of her ex-husband, giving the impression that there is something wrong with him, but once again tries not to tamper Libby's excitement. Meanwhile, Molly is taking care of the turtles and sets up a small diorama for them before asking Scratch to look after them. When she comes back, the turtles are all gone and she and Scratch hastily go searching for them. After nearly losing hope, Scratch reminds Molly of Libby's notebook about them and they use each of the turtle's interests to catch them all.
Libby and Leah finally reach the meeting place where the latter finally tells the former to tamper their expectations. Matias arrives and appears happy to see Libby, giving her a copy of his new book Chasing Dreams, which is signed. Libby presents a book that she has written to Matias and while impressed, does not make the same response. He tells Libby that his publisher already has him set on doing a trilogy and she realizes that he does not have time for her. A saddened Libby returns to Leah and thanks her for always being by her side. They return home and get the turtles just as Scratch finds the last one, with Libby casually deducing that Molly lost, but then retrieved them at the last minute.
