If I cannot join the Communiverse, then I shall take it by force! Prepare to be conquered!
―Lord Grigon to the Communiverse leaders[src]

Lord Grigon is the main antagonist of the 2025 DisneyPixar animated feature film Elio. He is the warmongering, power-obsessed ruler of the planet Hylurg and father of Glordon, who becomes friends with a human boy named Elio Solis.

Background[]

Personality[]

For Grigon, every waking moment of his life is a battle for him. From eating his mother when he was alive to working his way up to being the Lord and Chief Ambassador of Hylurg to taking the supposed ruler of "Uh-Earth", Elio Solis, under his wing to teach him about the ins-and-outs of the Comm-universe, there's no challenge Grigon finds himself unable for.

Physical appearance[]

Grigon is a large and bulky crab-like figure with purple skin, an angry face covered in orange energy at the chest alongside the same energy but they are lines in its hands, three legs and a transparent orange helmet with a pair of four pixelized black eyes with blue sclera that serve as its visor. However, this is not his true appearance, but only him in his battle suit. Outside of the suit, Grigon appears to be the same species as his son and the other Hylurgians.

Trivia[]

  • Grigon is the fourth Pixar character to be voiced by Brad Garrett, the other three were Dim from A Bug's Life, Bloat from Finding Nemo (alongside the sequel Finding Dory) and Auguste Gusteau from Ratatouille.
  • However, this is Brad Garrett's second voice role of a villain, as he also voiced Torque from the Disney/Pixar animated series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, making that his first voice role of a Pixar villain.
  • The joke about Grigon eating his mother the moment he was born was likely inspired by a similar joke in Moana where Tamatoa confesses that he ate his grandmother.
    • Although, unlike Tamatoa, Grigon regrets eating his mother at birth.
  • His name was originally supposed to be Ambassador Grigon before it was changed to Lord Grigon for unknown reasons.
    • Despite this, the name remained unchanged in the Latin American McDonalds promotion.
    • Additionally, there is also another name for him, General Grigon has been trademarked, even though it is unclear if this name would be actually used.[1]
  • He is the second Pixar antagonist with a decapod-like design. The first was Henry J. Waternoose III from Monsters, Inc. Coincidentally, both of them are fathers of those who are less evil than them (though, in Waternoose's case, he is Roger Rogers' disowned dad).
  • He also becomes the first main male antagonist from a Pixar film to reform at the end, and the third overall after Gabby Gabby from Toy Story 4 and Anxiety from Inside Out 2.
