Loulie Jean Norman was a famous American coloratura soprano, who, for Disney, was the singer of the soprano opera-singing ghost in Disney's Haunted Mansion ride, and Bubbles of the Sun Bonnets in the Country Bear Jamboree. She also voiced Penelope Pinfeather in Melody and Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom and was also among the voices of the townsfolk in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" segment of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
Norman was born in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Birmingham at Phillips High School and later at Birmingham–Southern College. After school, she began to pursue a career in radio and also found modeling jobs on the side. By the 1940s, she had been a part various vocal groups, such as The Rhythm Singers on Kay Thompson’s Chesterfield Program, The Campus Kids with Kay Kyser, The G-6 with Henry Mancini's wife, The Ray Conniff Singers, The Rhythmaires led by Judd Conlon, and was a soloist for The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street. Through this work, Norman would collaborate with artists, such as Bing Crosby, Mel Torme, Sam Cooke, Paul Frees, Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra.
Norman contributed to several films as an actress, voiceover or vocal dub for productions, like Brigadoon, The Band Wagon, The Harvey Girls, The Big Hangover, Dream Wife, Porgy and Bess, G.I. Blues, Blue Hawaii, Too Late Blues, A Boy Named Charlie Brown, Heidi's Song, and soundtracks for Jerry Lewis' Cinderfella and Hanna-Barbara's Rock Odyssey. Her television credits included frequent appearances on The Dinah Shore Show, The Dean Martin Show, The Carol Burnett Show, The Ray Anthony Show, and Shirley Temple's Storybook. Her most significant television contribution, however, is delivering the non-lexical vocables over Alexander Courage's opening theme song for the original Star Trek show.
Norman died on August 2, 2005 in Studio City, California.
