This article is about the song from Disenchanted. For the song from Muppet Treasure Island, see Love Power.

"Love Power" is a song from the film Disenchanted sung by Nancy Tremaine (Idina Menzel). A reprise of the song also appears in the film sung by Giselle (Amy Adams), as well as a pop version heard over the end credits. The latter was released as a single on November 17, 2022.

In the song, Nancy explains to Morgan the magic of memories. In the reprise, Giselle encourages Morgan to use the Wand of Wishes to make a wish and break the spell of Monrolasia.

The version on the soundtrack album is longer, containing an introductory verse that was cut from the film.

Lyrics[]

If we ever needed magic,
We could use it now.
And if spells and wands won’t work,
We’ll find a way somehow.
Can we find some new power?
If we ever needed magic,
This would be the day.
Can we find the way?

Memories are magic, Morgan.
Doesn't matter how unmemorable they seem.
Ordinary moments
Like a look or laugh you shared
Can bring a gleam of light
In your bleakest, darkest hour.

Memories can save us, Morgan.
When you add them up,
They paint a picture of
All the love you're given
And the love you have received.

And in that love,
There's power.
Love power.
Feel it flowing though you like a rushing stream.

There are those who just love power
And they throw us down a well of deep despair.
They don’t understand that while they live in hate and fear,
Look what's right there!
Love power!
Love, love power.
We can always choose to use it if we dare.

Love power!
Love power!
And we find it in the memories we share
And we need it
Like the sun and light and air.

When we need real magic, Morgan
This is where to go.
Find the song inside you
That your memories seem to know.
Let it grow!
Let it glow!
Whoa!
Whoa!

Out of rock, there grows a flower.
As a ray of sunshine melts,
A cave of ice.
So we’ll sing it out
Until the world will sing along.
What makes us strong?

Love power.
Love, love power!
It’s like soaring on a magic broomstick
To the sky above.
We fly on love.
Love power!
Love, love power!
Just remember the memories
That show us the power of love!

Memories are made of magic
Doesn't matter how unmemorable they seem
Ordinary moments
Like a little laugh you shared
Can bring a gleam of light
In your bleakest, darkest hour

Memories are more than magic
When you add them up, they paint a picture of
All the love you're given
And the love you have received

And in that love,
There's power
Love power
We can always choose to use it if we dare
Love power
Love power
And we find it in the memories we share
And we need it like the sun and light and air

So when you need some magic
This is where to go
Find the song inside you
That your memories seem to know
Let it grow
Let it glow
Whoa
Whoa

Love power
Love, love power
It's like soaring on a magic broomstick
To the sky above
We fly on love, love power
Love, love power
Just remember the memories
That show us the power of love!

Morgan: I'm not a true daughter of Andalasia

Giselle: You are a true daughter of Andalasia
Because you are my daughter, Morgan
And I'll tell you
How I absolutely know
It's how I'd make a world for you
That never breaks your heart
Where you can grow and thrive
And your every wish can flower
I will always love you, Morgan
I'm so proud of how I know you'll carry on
I've known a lot of magic in my life
But never anything as strong
Love power
My love for you has power
And you'll have it there inside you
When I'm gone

Morgan: No, no, no, no
What do I wish for?

Giselle: My love will be there
Ever after...

Morgan: I wish I was home...
With my mom

Trivia[]

  • The final lyric, 'love', is held for 13.62 seconds, similar to "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, which was also sung by Idina Menzel and written by lyricist Stephen Schwartz.
  • The final line "the power of love" might be a reference to the Huey Lewis song of the same name.
  • The way that Morgan's torn dress is transformed into a beautiful dress by magic that surrounded her while Morgan raised her arms, is similar when the Fairy Godmother transformed Cinderella's torn dress into a beautiful ball gown by magic that surrounded Cinderella while she raised her arms.
  • The line "Let it glow, let it grow" is a nod to "Let It Go" from Frozen, another Menzel song.
    • Additionally in the Latin American dub, that line is translated to "Libres son, libres son"; and the latter song's title is singularly translated to "Libre Soy".
  • The reprise of the song was sung live on set by Amy Adams.
  • When the magical leaves rotated around Morgan and Nancy, it was a reference to Pocahontas.
