Lucille Soong is a Chinese-American actress. For Disney, she portrayed Pei-Pei's Mother in the 2003 remake of Freaky Friday and as a cook in the 2005 film Sky High. She also provided the voice of Dang Hu in the 2021 Disney animated feature film Raya and the Last Dragon.
Born in Beijing in 1938, she moved from to Hong Kong at age 21. She discovered by director Lewis Gilbert and made her first uncredited screen appearance in his 1959 film Ferry to Hong Kong. After moving to London in the 1960s, she went on to have single-episode roles in British film and TV series, like Ghost Squad, Crane, Emergency-Ward 10, The Champions, and Coronation Street.
In the U.S., Soong appeared in episodes of Desperate Housewives, Dharma & Greg, Passions, Huff, All About the Andersons, Strong Medicine, JAG, The King of Queens, Bones, Without a Trace, According to Jim, and Fresh off the Boat. In films , she appeared as hairdresser Ming in Nora's Hair Salon (2004) and Nora's Hair Salon 2: A Cut Above (2008), as well as in Nine Dead, The Joy Luck Club, The Corruptor, and Nancy Drew.
