Lynda Petty was accompanied by Richard Petty all her life. She married him in the late 1950s, but was not as known as her husband Richard (a 7-time Daytona 500 champion and 7-time Cup series title driver holding a possibly unbeatable record of 200 Cup series wins).
Her son, Kyle Petty is the most famous of her five children, as he became a NASCAR driver with 8 wins.
In 2010, Lynda Petty was diagnosed with backbone cancer. She drifted in and out of illness until she finally succumbed to the cancer on March 25, 2014 at the age of 72, 19 days after her last birthday.
