Macho Bull and Fulla Bull are the names of two respective adult male elephants who appear in the 2000 Disney live-action film Whispers: An Elephant's Tale. They are large adult bull elephants (hence their name) who fight to see who is the dominant male of his territory.
Background[]
Personality[]
Macho Bull and Fulla Bull are two large adult male African bull elephants (hence their name) that inhabit a water hole in the African savanna, particularly in a territory dominated mostly by adult male elephants. According to Whispers, they are the most noble and magnificent of all the elephants he met during his life. As a normal means of survival, they fight to see who is the dominant male of the watering hole. Despite their aggressive behavior, they are not genuinely evil but rather neutral as in them fighting to see who is the dominant male elephant of the water hole.
Role in the film[]
After one of the bull elephants' belches scares away a flock of birds, Macho Bull and Fulla Bull fight against each other, just as Groove tells Whispers about the importance of the elephants' culture that he needs for his life. The fight between the two elephants becomes briefly interrupted when Groove arrives, telling Whispers to understand the culture that elephants have as they grow up. Fulla Bull tells Groove that this watering hole is restricted to bull elephants, while another one replies that he feels uncomfortable when female elephants are present. Groove tells Whispers to be on his best behavior, but the latter insults them calling them "gorillas" and "warthogs", much to their shock.
Irritated of what Whispers said to the other elephants, Macho Bull warns him to be careful of what he says, just as he also shows them the animal sounds he can make, although he cannot trumpet yet. Macho Bull then becomes irritated with Whispers, telling him that he's not a grownup elephant yet. Groove then explains that he'll fit right in so that he could bond with them, despite his size, followed by Fulla Bull telling Groove to take off. Whispers asks the other male elephants if they want him out, which they all agree, just before Macho Bull allows Whispers to walk alongside Groove. They do not appear again afterwards.
Trivia[]
- Their names are not mentioned in the film and are only seen in the film's end credits.
- Macho Bull and Fulla Bull are one of the few elephants not being seen stalked by poachers.
- The way Macho Bull and Fulla Bull quarrel against each other in the water hole reflects the way how adult male African elephants evaluate their dominance by fighting, which can either be mild, playful, or hostile.
