"Man or Muppet" is a song from the film, The Muppets. It is sung by the two protagonists, Gary (in both his human and Muppet forms) and Walter (in both his Muppet and human forms [Played by Jim Parsons]), about their decisions of whether they are (very manly) Muppets or (Muppets of) men. This occurs after Mary dumps Gary for being too loyal to Walter.
It was nominated the Academy Award for Best Original Song on January 24, 2012, making it the third song from a Muppet film to hold that position (the first two being "The Rainbow Connection" from The Muppet Movie and "The First Time It Happens" from The Great Muppet Caper) and won it on February 26, 2012 (being the first song from a Muppet film to hold that position).
Lyrics
Gary:
I reflect on my reflection
And I ask myself the question
What's the right direction, to go
I don't know
Am I a man or am I a Muppet
Gary (Reflection): Am I a Muppet
Gary: If I'm a Muppet then I'm a very manly Muppet
Gary (Reflection): Very manly Muppet
Gary / Gary (Reflection): Am I a Muppet (Muppet) or am I a man
Gary (Reflection): Am I a man
Gary: If I'm a man that makes me a Muppet of a man
Gary (Reflection): A Muppet of a man
Walter:
I look into these eyes
and I don't recognize
The one I see inside
It's time for me to decide
Am I a man or am I a Muppet
Walter (Reflection): Am I a Muppet
Walter: If I'm a Muppet, well I'm a very manly Muppet
Walter (Reflection): Very manly Muppet
Walter / Walter (Reflection): Am I a Muppet (Muppet) or am I a man
Walter (Reflection): Am I a man
Walter: If I'm a man that makes me a Muppet of a man
Walter (Reflection): A Muppet of a man
All:
Here I go again
I'm always running out of time
I think I've made up my mind
Now I understand, who I am
Gary: I'm a Man!
Walter: I'm a Muppet!
Walter (Reflection): I'm a Muppet of a man!
Walter: I'm a very manly Muppet
Gary: I'm a Muppet-y man!
Both: That's what I am
