Marc Charles Breaux was an American dancer, choreographer, and actor, who worked on Disney films, like Mary Poppins, The Happiest Millionaire, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks with his then wife, Dee Dee Wood. He also voiced the cow during the "Jolly Holiday" sequence of Mary Poppins.
Breaux was born in Carenco, Louisiana and studied dance at University of Louisiana at Lafayette before enlisting as a Navy pilot in World War II. After the war, he became a pre-med student, but that changed when he went to a friend's modern dance class in New York City taught by famed choreographers Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman and returned to the profession. He appeared on Broadway with shows, like Kiss Me, Kate, The Barrier, Catch a Star!, and Lil' Abner, where he met Wood, where they began to collaborate on shows, like Destry Rides Again, Do-Re-Mi, and specialty numbers on shows, like The Hollywood Palace, Music from Shubert Alley, ABC Stage 67, and The King Family Show.
when Dick Van Dyke got the role of Bert in Mary Poppins, he recommended to Walt Disney of the husband-wife duo and created one of the best know live-action dances to the songs "Step in Time" and "Jolly Holiday". They continued working with much of the crew of this film in various projects, such as The Sound of Music (Julie Andrews) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Van Dyke and the Sherman Brothers). Later the couple divorced and worked on separate projects. Breaux choreographed shows, like Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen, Minnie's Boys, and Snoopy, as well as the Sherman Brothers' film The Slipper and the Rose, Huckleberry Finn, Sextette, and The New Dick Van Dyke Show.
Following some health issues and a heart attack in the late 1970s, Breaux went to work for ex-producer Nick Vanoff as an editor at Sunset Gower Studios and at Complete Post as a videotape operator for the company for nearly 20 years until his retirement in the mid-1990s to Palm Springs before re-joining his family in Arizona. He passed away on November 19, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona; 16 days after his 89th birthday.
