Maui is the deuteragonist of the upcoming film Moana.

Background

Maui is a demigod of South Pacific legend. Born a human, and raised by gods, Maui is equipped with shapeshifting abilities and a giant magical hook. He also has multiple tattoos across his body, which are animated and move about his skin. Despite his status, Maui finds himself torn between the worlds of humanity and deity, feeling "stuck in the middle". Nevertheless, he finds enjoyment in showcasing his godlike abilities to others.[1]

Maui will also join Moana on her travels.
