Role[]
Max is a paperboy who starts his first day of junior high with his best friends Megan and Robe. He then encounters his former friend Troy McGinty, who takes him to be tortured as his first victim of the year. This led to Principal Jindraike to declare Max as his enemy, much to Troy's amusement. Max is then bullied by Dobbs when the latter steals his lunch money. Max visits his friend Tad the chimp at the animal shelter and learns that the shelter is shutting down. Determined to keep the animal shelter from closing down, he asks his parents for advice, but they announced that they are moving to Chicago, much to his disappointment. When Megan and Robe learns about the moving, they try to cheer Max up, but Max is too jaded by the news to think positively and instantly admits his defeat.
In the next morning, Max gets tested by most of his peers. Megan wants Max to participate in putting flyers at the school to prevent the animal shelter from closing down, but Max rejects the offer. Max is then confronted by Jindraike, who reveals that he is the one closing the animal shelter down, which motivates Max to be determined to stop his principal's plans. When Troy picks on Robe and puts him inside a glass stand, Max lets Robe out of the stand. Max is then grabbed by Troy and the latter takes him to the bathroom to give him a swirling. As a result, Max's homeroom teacher Mrs. Styles tardis him and unfairly assigns him a 2000-word essay, which she demands to have on her desk at the upcoming Friday, which is the day Max moves to Chicago. This prompts Max to rebel against her by wrecking her belongings and leaves out of the room.
Max concocts a plan to seek revenge on his tormentors. Max gives his father Don advice about standing up for himself against his boss Mr. Foge. First, Max steals animal pheromones, place them in Jindraike's breath spray. When he, Megan and Robe break and enter the school at night, they discovered that Jindraike is using 97% of the school's budget to create a football stadium. They then steal the Ice Cream Man's ice cream truck's freezing coil and Dobbs' handheld. Max then puts on the McGoogles costume to frighten McGinty and created a food fight to keep superintendent Knebworth from giving ownership of the school to Jindraike. As a final prank, Max uses a crane to pick up the Ice Cream Man's truck to pour the melted ice cream on him and Dobbs as they are fighting each other. All of the villains eventually discover that Max is the reason for their mishaps.
When his vengeance is over, Max attempts to go to his going-away party prepared by Megan and Robe, but is then confronted by his crush Jenna, who convinces him to hang out with her. Max agrees and ditches his friends. Once Megan and Robe shows up at the ice cream parlor, they feel betrayed as Max was using them to get revenge on the bullies. Ridden with guilt, Max attempts to stop Megan and Robe calls him out on his selfishness. Realizing that his desire for popularity came with the expense of his friendship with Megan and Robe, Max leaves the party and goes home to call Megan's mother that he is sorry for hurting her. Don announces that the family is not moving to Chicago, thanks to Max advising him to stand up to Mr. Foge, much to his shock. Realizing he will have to face the consequences, Max faints.
Max realizes that not only does his friends are suffering from the results of his actions, but the entire school as well. Max goes inside the janitor's closet to hide, in which he incidentally encounters the school janitor, who advices to take responsibility for his actions. Max then sneaks inside Jindraike's office to apologize to everyone for the chaos he have caused. Jindraike then stops Max and Max turns on the camera to sneakily film Jindraike's confession of his embezzlement. Jindraike locks Max in the closet before he prepares to destroy the animal shelter. Max quickly escaped from the closet to confront McGinty and Dobbs. When the students prepare to dump the two into the garbage, Max advises them to not seek revenge against them and let them go, though they misunderstand him and end up dumping them. Max then rejects Jenna after seeing her true colors. In the final showdown, Max stops Jindraike from running over the animals with a bulldozer. Max defeats Jindraike by having the animals chasing after him, which led to him becoming the school hero. Max is then being chased by the Ice Cream Man.
