The Mayor of Phantom Canyon is a character from the Phantom Manor attraction at Disneyland Paris.
History[]
Prior to his death, the Mayor of Phantom Canyon once served as the mayor of Thunder Mesa. In the year 1860, a massive earthquake struck Thunder Mesa, resulting in a massive ravine to cause the mayor to fall to his death, which results in the town to later be known as "Phantom Canyon". Following his death, Thunder Mesa lost its mayor, causing the mayor to rule over Phantom Canyon to serve as the area's new mayor.
Role in the attraction[]
The Mayor is encountered at the end of the attraction where the Doom Buggies arrive at Phantom Canyon. He then welcomes guests who arrive at the area where he greets him not only tipping his hat, but also his head, revealing his undead state. He also offers the guests to join the citizens of Phantom Canyon to become the town's 1,000th resident. The lines said by the Mayor are actually recycled audio used by Ghost Host from the original Haunted Mansion attraction.
Trivia[]
- The voice clips used for the Mayor are actually reused audio files of Paul Frees as Ghost Host from the original Haunted Mansion attraction. However, mentions to the Haunted Mansion were omitted, due to the attraction being set in the Ravenswood Manor rather than the Gracey Manor.
- In the original version of the attraction, the Mayor's physical appearance has a strong resemblance to the Dreamfinder from the former Epcot attraction Journey Into Imagination, indicating that his design was directly recycled from the latter. The 2019 refurbishment gave him a skull-like face.
- Coincidentally, Tony Baxter, who designed the Dreamfinder in the original Journey into Imagination incarnation, also designed much of Disneyland Paris and Phantom Manor.
