Duncan McLaren Stewart was an American layout artist, stylist, and art director, who worked on various animated features for The Walt Disney Company for 38 years.
Stewart was born in California, Michigan but later made his way to San Francisco where he attended the California School of Fine Arts from 1931 to 1932.[1]
In October of 1934, Stewart joined Disney studios as a story sketch man before joining the team for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He soon became a layout artist for films, such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Bambi, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, and Sleeping Beauty. During the mid-1950s, Stewart animated several episodes of the Disneyland anthology series. He contributed to Bedknobs and Broomsticks before retiring from the company in 1972 where he spent much of his time at his home in the neighborhood of Balboa in Newport, California.
He died on May 14, 1992. He was cremated and his ashes, per his request, were scattered at sea. His legacy with Disney was cemented with a Main Street USA window dedication.[2]
