Megara is a character who appears in the ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time.
She makes her only appearance in the fifth season episode "Labor of Love", where it is revealed she has been residing in the underworld for decades before being able to go to Mount Olympus after completing her unfinished business.
She is based on the character of the same name from Disney's Hercules.
History[]
In the Enchanted Forest, Megara was being chased by Cerberus and ran into Hercules who was on his way to complete his final labor, the same monster that was Megara. She begged him to save her and he let her run off so he could defeat the three-headed hellhound. However, Cerberus killed Hercules and Megara soon after him. Following her death, Megara's soul went to the Underworld because she had unfinished business.

Over 3-4 decades later, Megara is held hostage in an underground prison where Killian Jones is also being kept and Cerberus is guarding the tunnels that lead to the dungeon. Killian lets Megara leave and asks her to give Emma Swan, his girlfriend, a message. Meg leaves and escapes into the woods where she hides until she is found by Emma and Regina Mills, who teleport her away to the underworld Blanchard loft for safety.
When Meg is brought to safety by Emma, Megara explains where Killian is and what the beast that is guarding the dungeon is like. She describes Cerberus as a monster that can crush a person's bones with its teeth and that it can't be destroyed, although Mary Margret says that isn't true as she knows what the beast is and how to destroy it.

After Mary Margret fails to convince Hercules to help her save Killian by destroying Cerberus, Meg is still in the loft when the family are discussing what to do. However, Cerberus enters and attacks the apartment so Meg runs into the town, where she hides by the library. Snow White and Hercules later find Meg and ask for her help in fighting Cerberus although she is reluctant, believing she can't do it. Together, the three are able to destroy the monster and Meg and Hercules formerly introduce themselves to each other.
In Granny's, Meg and Hercules realise they met years beforehand back in the Enchanted Forest. Hercules apologises for failing to save Meg back then as she explains that Cerberus killed her immediately after Hercules. The two fall in love and are ready to leave the underworld. At the crossroads, Megara and Hercules say goodbye to Snow and the others, offering to stay if they want their help, although Snow tells Meg and Hercules that they both have been down here too long and should go. Megara asks Emma to tell Killian he was right to trust her, and Meg departs with Hercules to Mount Olympus hand-in-hand, where his father is waiting for him.
