The Memory Extraction Machine is a weapon used by the Martians in Disney's 2011 co-produced film Mars Needs Moms.
Background[]
The memory extraction machine is a device used by the Martians, which was designed to take disciplines from a human mother, transporting them into the Nanny-bots located on a solar-wind focusing system. During a sunrise, the process extracts the memories from the human, transporting her memories into the Nanny-bots.
Physical description[]
The memory extraction machine is surrounded by a sphere made of glass and within the sphere is a flat platform circled inside it. Outside the sphere is a large ray gun weapon whose point at the end consists of a needle, which charges up the energy when the extraction process begins in a plan for the Martians to transport a human mother's memories onto the Nanny-bots. If unsuccessful, the blast from the machine could hit the space station on Mars, resulting in a power surge in the Supervisor's lair, such as the Nanny-bots being disabled by the surge it causes.
Role in the film[]
When Gribble is discussing with Milo that all what the Martians care about is order and discipline, the latter tells Gribble about what the Martians will do to his mother. Gribble explains the process of the memory extraction machine which the Martians use to transport memories from a human mother into the Nanny-bots. Fearing about this, Milo devices a plan to save his mother, which Gribble denies, telling him that there are no plans to save her. Milo devises a plan to save his mother with assistance from Gribble.
During Gribble's tragic flashback, he recaps that he was a good boy before his mother was abducted by Martians and when Gribble planned to rescue his mother from Outer Space on Mars, he attempted to stop the Martians from taking his mother's memories, but his plans to save her were a failure. To his empty protests, the sun rose and took her memories as Gribble lost his mother with her memories transferred to the Nanny-bots, thanks to the extraction machine that the Martians used.
As the process on the extraction machine begins to extract the memories from Milo's mother onto the Nanny-bots, Milo attempts to wake up his mother who is feeling dozy just as the ray gun begins to power up in a plan to extract Milo's mother's memories into the Nanny-bots, much to the Supervisor summons a group of SISS soldiers to find Milo and stop him from interfering her plans as the needle from the weapon begins emitting blue energy to complete the process. As Milo is unable to open the straps manually before time runs out, he was able to open them by using an alien gun to dislodge the straps just before Milo continues to pull his mother out of the machine just as the needle almost touches her to do the same thing done to Gribble's mother. Just as Milo rescues his mother from a demise, the blast from the weapon results in a massive surge of energy onto the space station, disabling the Nanny-bots. This results in chaos across the Supervisor's lair, where the Martian males burst in and topple the Nanny-bots into a domino effect, releasing the Martian hatchlings from them, who later pounce onto more Martians in full-padded suits, just as the commotion continues across the Supervisor's lair.
With Milo's mother saved, her son gives her a helmet in order to breathe, because they are in space just as he and his mother escape from the extraction machine, followed by Ki rocket ship ready to leave back to Earth smashing through the extraction sphere, resulting the extraction machine to be destroyed. In the aftermath, the Supervisor was arrested for her tyranny and crimes after Ki showed her the evidence of what a real Martian family should be, followed by Milo and his mother returning to Earth back home.
