Romance[]
Peter Parker[]
- Peter: "I really like you."
- Michelle: "I really like you, too."
- ―Peter and Michelle[src]
In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter and Michelle aren't super close friends but she does sit with him and his best friend Ned Leeds, claiming she does not have any friends. When Peter repeatedly leaves certain moments without explanation, MJ often watches him, including when he leaves Liz Tommes at the homecoming dance. After Spider-Man turning up at the Washington Monument and Peter not being seen at the academic decathlon, Michelle becomes suspicious that Peter might be Spider-Man.
After both Peter and Michelle are resurrected by the Hulk, they both attend the European Science trip, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which includes Betty Brant, Ned Leeds, Flash Thompson and Brad Davis. Michelle is the attention of both Peter and new kid Brad Davis.
Peter plans to take MJ up the Eiffel Tower to give her a necklace of her favourite flower, Black Dahlia, named after the death of the same woman. However, even though Peter tries to tell her how he feels in Prague, MJ tells him she knows he is Spider-Man and they work together to come up with a plan to expose Mysterio as a fraud.
When Peter leaves to find Nick Fury and is confronted by Mysterio, Michelle joins the rest of her class where they travel to London. After Brad tries to expose Peter with the photo, MJ sticks up for Peter to keep his identity a secret from the rest of the class.
After Peter defeats Mysterio, MJ escapes the crown jewels volt and finds an injured Peter at the other end and embraces him. MJ shows Peter the necklace that Happy gave her (on Peter's behalf) and she kisses him when he tries explain his plan to her. MJ tells Peter she struggles to get close to people which is why she miss-directed him back in Prauge and that she does like him, not just because of his alter-ego. Peter is able to finally confess his love for MJ and she tells him she likes him too. The teens finally share their first kiss and leave London as a couple.
When they are back in New York, Peter takes MJ on a swing around the city for their first date and even though MJ is excited at first, she ends up screaming her way around the city, asking Peter to put her down, never wanting to do it. After their date, MJ is horrified to see, along with Peter, her boyfriend's identity being exposed by Mysterio and J Jonah Jamerson.
- “I love you.”
- ―MJ to Peter[src]
The couple continue their relationship in Spider-Man: No Way Home. They are shown to be in a happy, with MJ supporting Peter through hard times. Peter is shown to be very protective of MJ when New York public make her uncomfortable about dating Peter after his identity is revealed to the world. When they swing back to Peter's apartment, he and MJ are seen by Happy Hogan and May, who think Peter and MJ are sleeping together. After Peter asks Doctor Strange to help him with his identity exposure, MJ (and Ned) support and help Peter fix the villains - Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Lizard and Electro - and return to their own universe. Peter later tries to save MJ when she falls off a building until he is whipped out from Green Goblin's glider and Peter 3 (Andrew Garfield) saves her instead. Peter asks Steven Strange to do a spell that will make everyone forget who Peter Parker is, which means he will lose MJ as his girlfriend and Ned as his best friend. Peter and MJ tearfully confess their love for each other and share a passionate kiss before the spell takes effect. Weeks later, Peter tries to reconnect with MJ and Ned until Peter sees the scar on MJ's head and decides to not tell her everything before leaving with his coffee. A confused MJ watches Peter walk out with a glimpse of recognition.
Friends[]
Betty Brant[]
Friends
MJ and Betty are shown to be good friends in Spider-Man: Far From Home and they are seen sitting next together on the flight to Europe at first before Betty moves seats and sits next to Ned, in hopes to get Peter and MJ sitting next to each other, although this backfires. MJ and Betty are shown to spend time together often throughout the movie (when MJ isn't spending time with Peter) and MJ helps and comforts both Betty and Ned after they are pulled into the shore after the attack in Venice.
When Mysterio is attacking London, MJ, Betty, Ned and Flash all go into the crown jewels with Happy Hogan to stay safe and Betty helps MJ defeat a drone.
When everyone is back in America, Betty comments to Peter about how she thinks that he and Michelle are a cute couple. Although they don't interact on-screen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the ending with their memories wiped of Peter Parker hint that they are still friends by high school graduation.
Ned Leeds[]
Close Friends
Although throughout Spider-Man: Homecoming, MJ often jokes with Ned and Peter and calls them loses, she does sit with them at lunch and he asks her why she even sits with them at lunch if she thinks their losers, in which MJ claims she doesn't have friends, confusing both Ned and Peter. Ned and MJ are seen hanging out together, though, at the homecoming dance.
In Spider-Man: Far From Home, MJ and Ned have seen to be closer and more friendly with each other, along with Peter. When MJ finds out that Peter is Spider-Man, Ned is surprised that she figured it out and tells her that he knew first.
Ned and MJ are seen hanging out on the top of the London bus where he assures her that even though the sky doesn't look good, it is just an illusion. Ned even calls MJ an FOS, "Friend of Spider-Man". Ned and MJ run into the Crown Jewels with Betty, Flash and Happy where they fear they are going to die so tell secrets, leaving Ned, MJ, Flash and Betty all confused when Happy tells them he is in love with May Parker, Peter's aunt.
After they all return to America, Ned is very supportive of MJ's relationship with Peter, especially since he knew Peter loved MJ since the start. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, they are shown to be good friends and work together to help Peter track down the villains (Green Goblin, Electro, Lizard and Doctor Octopus) who have transferred from their respective universes. MJ is also the first to find out that Ned can use Doctor Strange magic. They are shown to be really good friends at this point and MJ is the first to agree to live with Ned when he suggests living with the couple when they get into M.I.T. They are also clearly protective of one another when they hug after being saved by The Amazing Spider-Man and Cloak of Levitation, respectively. After a spell is cast for the world to forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man, MJ and Ned are shown to still be friends and are going to MIT together.
Happy Hogan[]
Acquaintance
Although MJ doesn't know who Happy is when they first meet in Spider-Man: Far From Home, he helps her, Ned, Betty and Flash all get to safety from Mysterio's attacks in London. MJ joins Happy and the others in the crown jewels volt and he gives her the Black Dahlia necklace that Peter gave him to give to her in case he didn't make it back alive. Even though MJ never learns Happy's name, she tells Peter about him when she shows him she received the necklace, calling Happy a "big sweaty guy".
Flash Thompson[]
MJ sometimes find Flash to be annoying shown in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but doesn't dislike him. However, she does get back at him when he makes fun of Peter on the flight to Europe in Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, they do spend time together in London after Peter has left to fight against Mysterio as Spider-Man and they go into the crown jewels volt with Happy, Ned and Betty. Flash and MJ seem to be friends at this point and he is generally concerned when he thinks a drone is going to hit her. They both also look the most confused when Happy claims he is in love with May, Peter's aunt.
The Amazing Spider-Man & Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man[]
MJ meets two alternate versions of her boyfriend in Spider-Man: No Way Home, when she and Ned Leeds are trying to locate their Peter Parker, after learning his Aunt May has been a victim of the Green Goblin's attacks. At first, MJ is doubtable that these two men are also Peter Parker's, so asks the first one she and Ned meet (The Amazing Spider-Man) to prove himself. MJ introduces The Amazing Spider-Man and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to their younger counterpart, her boyfriend, when they find him alone, mourning May on the rooftop of their school.
While MJ does get along with both versions, she does admit to her Spider-Man that it is weird to see two other versions of him. Both the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man are respectful of MJ and that their youngest self has found love, even though the oldest Peter (Peter-Two) figured it out with Mary Jane Watson, and The Amazing Spider-Man (Peter-Three) finds it hard to see his young self in a happy relationship as it reminds him of his late girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. When MJ falls off the scaffolding, Peter-Three saves her from suffering the same fate as Gwen did, all those years ago. Peter-Three manages to save MJ, becoming emotional upon remembering he couldn't save Gwen. MJ notices Peter-Three in tears and asks if he is okay, to which he sadly nods. MJ is very grateful for Peter-Three saving her and they say goodbye before he and Peter-Two are transported back to their respective universes.
Enemies[]
Brad Davis[]
MJ is the center of Brad's affection in Spider-Man: Far From Home, who is competing with Peter Parker to win her heart. Brad even takes a picture of Peter in his underwear with a woman (who he doesn't know is a Shield agent) to show MJ to make seem like Brad is the better romance option for MJ. However, MJ doesn't believe him and calls him out, asking him why he thinks it's cool to take pictures of people in their underwear, showing she dislikes him and doesn't like him in any way. This causes Brad to stop competing for her affection and she ends up with Peter.
Quentin Beck/Mysterio[]
When watching Mysterio fight the mysterious Elementals during her school trip in Europe, MJ did not show any interest in the vigilante. However, upon taking one of Mysterio's drones, MJ and Peter discovered Mysterio to be a fraud which they sought out to expose. However, Mysterio set his targets on MJ and her friends as she knew the truth of his crimes, only to be saved by Peter, resulting in Mysterio's death. Mysterio is also the reason MJ lost memories of Peter.
Norman Osborn/Green Goblin[]
MJ learns of the Green Goblin when she learns Peter caused a miltiveral crisis which caused him and other displaced villains travelled to the prime universe from their own and learns that he was previously known to be a mad man who fought a variant of her boyfriend. It is the Green Goblin's pumpkin bomb that causes MJ to fall off the Statue of Liberty and almost to her death until she is saved by another variant of Spider-Man.
