"Mickey's Monster Musical" is a Halloween special of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It is a parody of the 1970s cult classic musical film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The episode was released on DVD on September 8, 2015 before making its TV premiere on October 9 that same year. It is the one hundred and nineteenth episode in the series, and the twentieth episode in the fourth season.
Summary[]
Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto's picnic is spoiled by a storm, and then the Toon Car breaks down as they're trying to get back home. They seek shelter from the storm in an old Transylvanian-style castle, where Count Mickula offers them a place to stay until their car is fixed. However, they soon begin hearing strange spooky noises, leading them to believe the castle is haunted.
Plot[]
The special begins in the Clubhouse with Mickey greeting the viewers when Pluto gives him flowers, which Mickey states is for Minnie. Mickey states that he has a surprise planned for Minnie, who then arrives. Mickey gives her the flowers and asks her if she can go on a picnic with her, which she agrees. After Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto get everything ready, they take the Toon Car down the road.
Later, a thunderstorm arrives and as Mickey attempts to take the Toon Car back, the path gets blocked by a fallen tree. As Mickey goes another way, the Toon Car breaks down with all of its tires going flat, because Mickey forgot to tune it up. Rain then arrives and Minnie wonders what they should do. Pluto sees a castle up ahead and Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto head to its entrance while the Toon Car goes below the path. Igor the Door greets Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto and tells them to do a counting chore. They count backwards from ten to one to enter.
Once inside, Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto are greeted by Count Mickula, who assures them that the Toon Car will be fixed eventually. Count Mickula introduces himself as being from Clubhousylvania and takes Minnie for a flight. Dr. Von Drakenstein appears, introducing himself as the genius of the castle and is also from Clubhousylvania. Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto introduce themselves as a clanging sound is heard. Count Mickula assumes his castle might be haunted, which Von Drakenstein is not sure about. Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto decide to help Count Mickula and Von Drakenstein find out what's making the strange sounds. Von Drakenstein introduces the castle's version of the Mousekedoer and Boodles arrives with the Monster Mouseketools: a monster glow worm, a monster-sized straw, a skeleton key, and the Mystery Mouseketool.
A clanging sound is heard again, and Minnie knows it is close. A table with plates, cups, and chairs appears, followed by Goofy Monster, who arrives with some meals. Von Drakenstein reveals to have invented him. Count Mickula assures Goofy Monster that he is friendly. Goofy Monster serves spaghetti and meatballs before agreeing to help find out what's making the strange sounds. As Von Drakenstein goes to fix the Toon Car, more spooky sounds are heard. Pluto sniffs out where it is, which is behind a bookcase. Mickey pulls the owl statue to see what's behind the bookcase, which is Mademoiselle Clarabelle playing an organ. She is introduced to Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto, who they tell her about who could be haunting the castle. As Mademoiselle Clarabelle continues playing the organ, Goofy Monster attempts to do so, but breaks one of its pipes. As he attempts to put it back in place, it gets bent. So, Count Mickula calls Boodles for the monster-sized straw, which is used to replace the pipe. Mademoiselle Clarabelle then plays the organ so that everyone does the Monster Boogie. Just then, the strange sounds are heard again, and Count Mickula decides to check outside while Goofy Monster checks upstairs with Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto joining him.
Upstairs, Goofy Monster, Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto hear the strange sounds and wonder what could be making them. Goofy Monster then opens a door, which is where he keeps his stinky monster boots. Pluto hears someone behind the curtains, which is Count Mickula, who claims he found something spooky outside. He is unsure where it is causing the strange sound, and Goofy Monster, Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto join him in the search. So far, Count Mickula finds a statue of a bat.
Inside, Pluto finds a painting of someone before the others stumble upon a painting of stairs. Goofy Monster is sent through a wall and Mickey hears the strange sounds coming from the attic. This is where Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Count Mickula go to next. Once there, Mickey and Count Mickula have a feeling that someone is watching them. Pluto spots a painting of Donald before Ghost Daisy and Ghost Daisy appear. They are introduced to Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto and reveal that Von Drakenstein sent them to find the springy spring that he needs to fix the Toon Car, located in a small, yellow box. Minnie finds the box but when she opens it, the spring bounces everywhere until Mickey catches it. The strange sounds are heard again, meaning Donald and Daisy didn't make the sounds. Count Mickula claims the sounds are coming from below. Minnie finds a door which leads to the laboratory of Von Drakenstein, but it is locked. So, Mickey calls Boodles for the skeleton key, which is used to unlock the door before everyone goes down the slide to the laboratory, filled with attractions, while Ghost Donald and Ghost Daisy put the boxes away.
They then end up in the laboratory where Von Drakenstein is fixing the Toon Car. He meets Goofy Monster, who he invented, before Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Count Mickula arrive. Mickey knows that dramatic music is played when anyone says, "Doctor Von Drakenstein's laboratory". Goofy Monster then trips on a tire and is told by Mickey that he thinks the sounds are coming from the laboartory. Von Drakenstein knows that the spring is missing and he can't find the right tool he's looking for, as it's too dark. Minnie knows that light is needed, and Mickey calls Boodles for the monster glow worm, used to light up the room.
Von Drakenstein finds the shape wrench he has been looking for all day, and Count Mickula gives him the spring. The strange sounds are still heard, and Goofy Monster assumes the castle is still haunted. Von Drakenstein assumes there is someone behind one of the doors making the sounds. The numbers are odd because the castle is an odd place. A giant toad is behind door one, a kitty cat is behind door three, and the strange sounds are coming from behind door five.
Mickey opens the door and everyone tiptoes down the steps to find out that the strange sounds are actually Pete clanging a pipe with a hammer. Von Drakenstein asked him to come by and repair the leaky pipes in the castle. Pete apologizes for making a mess or scaring anybody, and Mickey and Minnie are surprised about it. Pete claims he has a little secret, as when he howls, he turns into a friendly werewolf. Pete states that when he gets scared, he likes to howl at the moon, and everyone else does so.
With one big leak left to repair, Count Mickula calls Boodles for the Mystery Mouseketool, which are mummy bandages, used to fix the leak by being wrapped around the pipe. Afterwards, Von Drakenstein goes to fix the car while Count Mickula makes sure everyone else is having fun at his castle. Minnie tells Count Mickula about the dilemma regarding the picnic, and Mickey tells her they can have a picnic some other day. Since the rain has stopped, Count Mickula invites them to a picnic under the moonlight. Minnie states that she, Mickey, and Pluto had a great time at Count Mickula's castle as the Toon Car appears, fully fixed while redesigned in monster form, courtesy of Von Drakenstein. Count Mickula concludes that the castle is fun, and everyone shows him how they have fun at the Clubhouse by doing the Hot Dog Dance. As Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto return to the Clubhouse on the Toon Car, Count Mickula wishes them a safe journey there. The special ends with Count Mickula turning into a bat and flying away before Igor and Boodles thank the viewers.

Trivia[]
- This is the fourth time that the Hot Dog Dance was not done at the Clubhouse, Count Mickula says "And now, it's time for me… to fly.", and Igor says Mickey's closing line as "Thank you all for stopping by."
- After the iris closes, Boodles appears, saying "See you real soon. Boo!" (the first sentence being Mickey's original closing line from Season 1) as the Hot Dog song finishes.
- This special premiered on DVD before it premiered on TV.
- This is the fifth episode in Season 4 to be in a different animation style, this is also the only special to be animated this way.
- The first issue of the DVD release comes with a free Halloween tote bag, good for trick-or-treating, and getting candy with.
- Toodles does not appear in the special, but was seen only in the intro. However, he was mentioned by Minnie during Boodles' introduction.
- This is the only episode in which Donald, Daisy, and Goofy are completely and physically absent in any way (if not counting Donald and Daisy's ghost counterparts and Goofy's monster counterpart). They also don't appear in the Hot Dog Dance at all, thus making Mickey the only character who has appeared in every episode storyline of the series and him, Minnie, and Pluto the only characters who have appeared in every Hot Dog Dance episode of the series.
- This is also the very first time that Goofy is absent in his physical form.
- This is the only episode where a character doesn't thank the viewers. Instead has Mickey and Count Mickula thanking each other.
- Count Mickula mentions he drinks grape juice. He can also fly and turn himself into a bat.
- The DVD comes with these two bonus episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: "Mickey's Pirate Adventure" and "Mickey's Farm Fun Fair". It also has the Minnie's Bow-Toons short "Tricky Treats", that can be accessed from the bonus features on the main menu.
- David Tennant, who voiced Igor the Door, would later go on to voice Scrooge McDuck in the 2017 DuckTales Reboot.
- This is the second time Mickey has a clone. The first time was in the 1990 film The Prince and the Pauper.
- A scene development has been found and uploaded on the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse archive channel on YouTube.
- This is the second and final Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Halloween special after "Mickey's Treat".
- In this episode, "That's a surprise tool that can help us later." is said by Count Mickula instead of the real Mickey.
- This episode was produced in 2013, according to the credits.
- In this episode, whenever anyone says, "Dr. Von Drakenstein's Laboratory", a sting consisting of three short notes and one long note play, accompanied by a sudden lightning flash, making this a running gag, but Count Mickula calls it "The Laboratory of Dr. Von Drakenstein". The music does not play after the bilingual announcer says "Dr. Von Drakenstein's Laboratory", however, although it's unknown if this is a goof. This may also be a subtle nod to the Mel Brooks film Young Frankenstein.
- For the slide, the American English speaker is female and the Spanish speaker, the one who copies her, is male. When the latter is saying "Welcome to the slide to Dr. Von Drakenstein's Laboratory." in Spanish, what it means is "Welcome to the slide to you know where.".
- Instead of the real Mickey saying, "Thanks for stopping by!", Igor the Door says it as "Thank you all for stopping by!" musically.
- In this episode, the real Mickey does not say, "That's me!" during the Hot Dog Dance ending. This is the only time this happens.
- This is the only episode when Boodles says goodbye to the viewers.
- Minnie and Pluto are the only major characters in the series to not have monster counterparts in this special.
- Two songs featured in this episode, "Count Mickula" and "Monster Boogie", were released on the "Disney Junior Music Halloween Party" album in 2017.
Goofs[]
- On Disney+, the episode is on season 5 category despite this being a season 4 episode.
- However, because this episode has different appearances and designs, the creators most likely meant for this to be a season 5 episode but mistakenly listed it as a season 4 episode. The same goes to Super Adventure!, Mickey's Pirate Adventure, Minnie's Winter Bow Show, and A Goofy Fairy Tale.
- The mouseketools were first in 3D, however during the scene where Count Mickula says "that's a surprise tool that will help us later" and when the mouseketools load to Boodles, they are in 2D.
- Their design also looks different.
