"Mikey's Pants" is the first segment of the forty-third episode of Recess.

Synopsis[]

Mikey's pants split, but will the gang be able to help him avoid Ms. Finster and her needle?

Plot[]

The Recess Gang are playing their usual game of kickball when the ball accidentally gets jammed under a bench. Mikey bends over to lift it so that they can retrieve it, but he ends up ripping his pants. The Gang check by the dumpsters and confirm that Mikey's pants are completely split. T.J. reminds everyone of the story of Joey Feinstock who also ripped his pants, had to get taken in by Miss Finster, and was so embarrassed that he moved away and changed his name. Not wanting to suffer the same fate, the Gang agree to help Mikey.

Finster, in a moment of prophetic ability, realizes that someone has torn their pants and makes it her goal to try and find the child. The Gang cover Mikey with a variety of things, including a newspaper, papier-mâché coating painted brown and a barrel. All of these fall apart one way or another. Gretchen finally uses a pair of space pants that are supposed to be indestructible, but by all laws of science Mikey somehow manages to rip these pants as well. Finster figures out that Mikey tore his pants and chases the Gang into the Ashley's clubhouse.

After scaring the Ashleys out, Mikey has no other option, but to face Finster and allow himself to be taken in. At the last minute, T.J., Vince and Gus all decide to tear their pants as well and leave the clubhouse to join Mikey in the public humiliation. As everyone laughs at their misfortune, King Bob silences everyone and demands that they be commended for sacrificing their dignity to help their friend. Finster proceeds to fix their pants as Mikey thanks the guys, shivering in embarrassment.

Trivia[]

  • Mrs. Klemperer, the kindergarten teacher, is shown without a neck brace and the kindergarteners have regular clothes on and are acting like normal children. It's possible that the kindergarteners caused Miss Klemperer's neck injury.
  • This is one of only six episodes of the television show Recess that were directed by both Sheetz and Parkins, the two prominent directors of the series.
