Moana is an American media franchise created by Ron Clements and John Musker and produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. It follows the adventures of Moana, a Polynesian princess and the daughter of the chief of Motunui, who sets sail across the ocean to restore the heart of Te Fiti and save her island from a curse. Along the way, she meets the demigod Maui, who becomes her ally and friend. The franchise consists of three feature films, a short film, several video games, and two theme park attractions.

Moana (2016)[]

The first film, Moana, was released on November 23, 2016 to critical acclaim and commercial success. It features the voice talents of Auli'i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, as well as Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, and won the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature. It also became the sixth highest-grossing animated film of all time, with a worldwide gross of over $690 million.
Moana 2 (2024)[]

The second film, Moana 2, is scheduled to be released on November 27, 2024. It will continue the story of Moana and Maui, who embark on a new quest to explore the uncharted regions of Oceania and encounter new cultures and creatures. The film will be directed by Dave Derrick Jr., with music by Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina.
Moana (2026)[]

On April 3, 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Dwayne Johnson shared the news during Disney's annual shareholder's meeting Monday, that a live-action remake of the 2016 animated film, Moana, would be in development. Dwayne Johnson is set to act as producer for the film, via his production company, Seven Bucks Productions. His co-star in the 2016 animated film, Auli'i Cravalho, who voiced the titular character, will executive produce with Scott Sheldon of Flynn Picture Co.. On May 31, 2023, Thomas Kail was announced to be the film's director.

Gone Fishing (2017)[]

The short film, Gone Fishing, was released in 2017 as a bonus feature on the Blu-ray release of Moana. It shows Maui trying to catch a fish with his magical fishhook, while Moana tries to stop him from harming a baby turtle. The short film was directed and written by Chris Williams.

The franchise includes several video games, such as Moana: Island Life, a simulation game released in 2016 for mobile devices; Disney Infinity: 3.0 Edition, a toys-to-life game released in 2016 for various platforms; Disney Crossy Road, an endless runner game released in 2016 for mobile devices; Disney Emoji Blitz, a match-three game released in 2016 for mobile devices; Disney Magic Kingdoms, a simulation game released in 2016 for mobile devices; and Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, a role-playing game released in 2018 for mobile devices. It also has two theme park attractions, one located at Hong Kong Disneyland in Hong Kong, China, and the other at Epcot in Orlando, Florida.
