On her birthday, a nostalgic Jubilee is forced to relive the X-Men's greatest adventures when an entertainment system transports her into a 16-bit video game.
Plot[]
On the morning of her 18th birthday, Jubilee and Roberto are transported into a video game by Mojo. With the help of a digital copy of Jubilee from the game's beta version, the pair fight their way through the game and defeat Mojo before Spiral sends them back to the real world. Afterwards, Jubilee kisses Roberto. Meanwhile, Storm heads to Forge's ranch to undergo a procedure meant to restore her powers, but it fails. After he admits to previously inventing power-nullifying technology, an enraged Storm tries to leave, only to be brought back by the Adversary.
The X-Men arcade game cabinet also makes an appearance at the final boss fight with Mojo.
Before Jubilee and Sunspot get sucked into the "Motendo" console, a stuffed toy that looks like Longshot can be seen on one of the dressers, Mojo's original star and leading man in his intergalactic television series.
Longshot made a few appearances in the original X-Men animated series. When he was last seen, Longshot was leading a revolution against Mojo.
The Motendo game console is a parody to the Nintendo game console.
One of the levels in Mojo's video game is based on a episode from the first season where Jubilee, Storm, and Gambit were held prisoner on the island nation of Genosha and turned into slaves along with other mutants.
The player-select screen for Mojo's "Rise of Jubilee" game has Jubilee and Sunspot as the chosen playable characters. However, other mutants could have theoretically been chosen as well. Mutants including Colossus, Magik, and Cable are featured on the character list.
The first level of Mojo's video game features a 16-bit version of a wanted poster with the faces of various X-Men. This is from the classic comic cover from Marvel Comics' Days of Future Past.
Alyson Court, the original voice of Jubilee, voices a digital clone of the character.
In the comics, Abscissa was a future version of Jubilee who was kidnapped by Mojo and forced to be his servant. In X-Men '97, Abscissa's origins are slightly different, yet retain the core elements of the character.
