Motufetu is a South Pacific Island that appears in Moana 2. It is a magical island that connects a whole bunch of other islands within the South Pacific sea, one of them being Moana's island, Motunui. It was sunk by the cruel storm god Nalo who sought to destroy the humans who lived in the South Pacific islands.
Appearance[]
Moana[]
Although never mentioned, since Nalo sank Motufetu and broke the connection to the other islands, the people of Moana's island, Motunui stopped voyaging on the orders of the founder of Motunui, Matai Vasa.
Moana 2[]
In the sequel, when Motunui began suffering through afflictions, Moana has a vision of Matai Vasa telling her that Nalo's curse on Motufetu is surfacing and will result in the end of her island unless Moana finds her demigod friend Maui and ask him for help to bring Motufetu back to the surface. When Moana, alongside a crew of members from her island, set out to find Maui, they soon learn that Moana's old enemies, the Kakamora, were also effected by Nalos curse since Motufetu's submerging means they've lost their way to find their home island. Soon enough, Moana and Maui reunite and although Nalo tries to maintain his curse, both of them manage to resurface Motufetu and connect the people with the ocean.
