The smartest man alive. Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four.
Baron Mordo introducing Mr. Fantastic to Doctor Strange[src]

Mr. Fantastic (real name Reed Richards) is a Marvel Comics character who is the leader of the Fantastic Four, and one of the most brilliant scientific minds.

He is portrayed by John Krasinski in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and will be portrayed by Pedro Pascal in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Robin Atkin Downes in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and Wally Wingert in Avengers Assemble.

Mr. Fantastic was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Appearances[]

Marvel Cinematic Universe[]

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness[]

"We appreciate your concern, Stephen, but it's not the Scarlet Witch that we fear. From our experience, the greatest danger to the Multiverse, it turns out, is Doctor Strange.
―Mister Fantastic to Doctor Strange[src]

Reed Richards is a founding member of the Illuminati, a collective of the most powerful and intellectual superheroes alive on Earth-838, a universe outside of the prime MCU reality (Earth-616).

When Doctor Strange of Earth-616 is arrested and brought forth before the Illuminati for risk of incursion, Richards shrugged aside Strange's warnings about the Scarlet Witch. He insisted that the greatest threat to the universe remained to be Doctor Strange of Earth-838, as he had caused an incursion while searching for a quick method to defeat Thanos. But when the Scarlet Witch of Earth-616 invaded the facility, Richards attempted to reason with her, noting of his own children that he loved. He only resorted to combat after witnessing her kill Black Bolt, but Richards was quickly shredded up and disposed of.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps[]

A different variant of Reed Richards will appear in the film along with his wife Sue Storm and their family. This variant appears in the mainstream universe, Earth-616 and will be portrayed by Pedro Pascal.

The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes[]

Reed first appears helping Henry Pym analyze Princess Ravonna, seeking a way to save her.

When the Avengers Iron Man and Wasp come to visit at the Baxter Building, Doctor Doom kidnaps Sue and Wasp. The Avengers and Fantastic Four go to Latveria to rescue them, and after a fight Doom just lets them go. What Reed and the others don't know is that Doom has discovered Sue isn't the real one, but a Skrull imposter.

Reed and the rest of the Fantastic Four almost fell victims of the Skrull Sue imposter, but the real Sue somehow saves them.

Some time later, he was part of the Avengers' expanded team against Galactus.

Powers and abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Elasticity: Reed has the power to be able to stretch his body in any way that are appropriate to his needs at a certain time. He does this when going to the bottom floor of the Illuminati headquarters, to face the Scarlet Witch.

Abilities[]

  • Genius Level Intellect: Richards was regarded by Karl Mordo as "The Smartest Man Alive" on their native Earth. Richards' intelligence was so great that he was able to explain abstract Multiversal concepts such as Incursions and their dangers to Doctor Strange, showcasing a knowledge and understanding of the Multiverse that surpassed Strange, despite the latter's status as a Master of the Mystic Arts.
  • Master Scientist: Richards founded the Baxter Foundation, an organization based on scientific research, including multiple realities, which they study.

Trivia[]

  • Mr. Fantastic marks the first time Dee Bradley Baker voiced a Marvel character since Marvel was purchased by Disney, he had previously voiced Young Keene Marlow in the 1990s Spider-Man TV series.
  • John Krasinski is a fan of Marvel Comics and had lobbied to portray the character in Marvel Studios. While this did not come to be, he did portray the character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness instead.[citation needed]
  • Rahul Kohli was originally in the running to portray the incarnation of the character in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, before Pedro Pascal got the role.[1]
  • Mr. Fantastic is one of the rare characters in the MCU's original universe, to have a different actor than his variant.
