Mr. York is a character from the 2020 Disney+ original film Black Beauty.
Background[]
Mr. York is a coachman who works at the Earlshall Park. He is shown to have a kind personality to anyone who he encounters such as Jo Green or Georgina Winthorp in a social manner. However, despite this, he is shown to give advice to Georgina to be gentle when riding on a horse, which she ignores his advice, showing that he dislikes when people ride on horses the wrong way. He also occasionally helps riders prepare to ride on horses properly before getting ready to race during a social gathering.
Role in the film[]
Mr. York is first seen approaching Georgina, whom he thinks she made the decision to save Beauty just before he approaches Jo Green and introduces himself to her and leading her to the summer quarters at Earlshall. Just as Georgina rides on Black Beauty, York gives her advice to ride on her carefully, which Georgina's pressure began putting stress on Beauty. He then approaches Georgina telling her to use the art of dressage properly when riding on her, just before she replies to him that she is not in the mood just before talking to Georgina's mother.
The next day, York helps Georgina get ready for her race while riding on Black Beauty just before Jo talks to George to help him win the race while riding on Ginger by wishing him luck. After Georgina's pressure put Beauty danger during the race, York began to negotiate with Georgina's mother planning to sell Beauty to another place where she would be treated nicely, much to her son's sadness. He makes no further appearances afterwards.
Trivia[]
- In the original book, there was a scene where the Earl of W instructs York to work up the horses up to a tight bearing rein slowly. This does not occur in the Disney film adaptation of Black Beauty, as the Earl of W does not appear in the film.
