"Muppet Newsflash" is the second segment of the forty-ninth episode of the 2018 version of Muppet Babies. It premiered on October 15, 2021.
Synopsis[]
Piggy starts a news show, but due to the news in the backyard being less than exciting, Kermit and Summer exaggerate their stories.
Plot[]
The kids are in the playroom, playing fishing with cards, when Fozzie comes in telling them his neighbor says he has a watermelon as big as a house. Miss Nanny comes in and says that his neighbor must’ve been exaggerating, meaning that he made his story seem more exciting than it actually was. However, it did remind her of a news story about a giant pumpkin, which she shows on the screen.
Afterwards, while Miss Nanny goes to get snack time ready, Piggy gets an idea for the Muppets to have their own news show. For a big story, Gonzo plans to perform a big stunt in the backyard and both Kermit and Summer want to report it. So in an effort to decide, the two go to share their own stories and the reporter with the best story will get to report the stunt.
The news show begins with Piggy hosting and Kermit and Summer reporting outside. Things start out well with Summer reporting on Fozzie’s jokes and Kermit interviewing Camila and the chicks, but when they both see Gonzo preparing for his stunt, they try to find more exciting stories. However, the most that they find is Mr Statler and Mr Waldorf enjoying a sandwich and Rolf and Sweetums performing a (literal) ‘rock’ song. So to make things more interesting, they decide to exaggerate things a bit.
So for the next few stories, Summer and Kermit begin to exaggerate their stories by saying that Animal has found buried treasure (his lunchbox) and Sam the Eagle has caught a whale (a tiny clownfish) while fishing (respectively). But soon, their fibs start getting out of hand when they start reporting on Fozzie juggling 50 kickballs, Chef baking a million muffins, Animal riding a woolly mammoth and two giants stomping through the city, leading Piggy to be skeptical about them being true or not.
Next came the weather report. Summer begins by claiming it was cloudy with a chance of rubber chickens, but Kermit steps in and adds in soccer balls. The two of them argue with Summer adding a pickle tornado and Kermit adding an alien invasion.
Finally, Piggy steps outside to put an end to it all. As it turns out, none of Summer or Kermit’s crazy stories are true, as they’ve been exaggerating things so much, they started to tell lies. The two of them realize that they were lying, all because they each wanted to report on Gonzo’s stunt. After they apologized, it’s decided that both Kermit and Summer will report on the stunt together.
It is now time for Gonzo’s stunt, in which he shoots out of a cannon and somersaults across the playground into a pool of sandwiches.
