"My Own Home (The Jungle Book Theme)" is a song from The Jungle Book sung by Shanti (referred to only as "The Girl" in the original film). The song is sung near the end of the film as she goes to fetch the water, during which Mowgli spies upon her and decides to follow her back to her village. Shanti can be heard humming the song again in The Jungle Book 2.
Lyrics
Shanti: My own home,
My own home,
My own home,
My own home
Hmmm...
Ooooh...
Hmmm...
Ooooh...
Hmmm...
My own home
[Speech]
Mowgli: Look, what's that?
Bagheera: Oh, it's the man village.
Mowgli: No, no. I mean that!
Baloo: Forget about those, they ain't nothing but trouble.
Mowgli: Just a minute! I've never seen one before!
Baloo: So you've seen one. So let's go.
Mowgli: I'll be right back. I want a better look.
Baloo: Mowgli, wait a minute!
Bagheera: Ah, Baloo. Let him have a better look.
Shanti: Father's hunting in the forest,
Mother's cooking in the home,
I must go to fetch the water,
Till the day that I am grown.
Till I'm grown,
Till I'm grown.
I must go to fetch the water,
Till the day that I am grown.
Then I will have a handsome husband,
And a daughter of my own.
Then I'll send her to fetch the water,
I'll be cooking in the home.
Hmmm...
Ooooh...
Then I'll send her to fetch the water,
I'll be cooking in my home.

Trivia
- The lyrics of the song suggest that Mowgli and Shanti will marry once they reach adulthood, as the song is meant to give a glimpse into Mowgli's future in the Man-Village.
- While the Sherman Brothers were working on the song, Ken Anderson worked on the storyboards for the sequence. The two groups had no idea what the other was doing until Ken invited the brothers to his office to show what he came up with. After seeing the storyboards, the brothers invited Ken to their office and played the song. At that point, it was apparent that both Anderson and the brothers had the same idea in mind of Mowgli meeting Shanti just outside of the Man-Village. The trio then presented a demo to Walt with Darleen Carr's vocals paired with the storyboards. Walt was amazed at what came about with this finale that he simply told them "Let's do it."
