N.A.T.A.L.I.E. is a character who appears in the Marvel Comics limited series Ironheart. She is the Artificial Intelligence of Riri's Ironheart armor, modelled after her best friend, Natalie, who died in a drive-by shooting.

N.A.T.A.L.I.E. was created by Eve Ewing, Kevin Libranda, Luciano Vecchio and Geoffo.

Background[]

The Neuro-Autonomous Technical Assistant and Laboratory Intelligence Entity (aka N.A.T.A.L.I.E.) was created from the brain patterns of Riri Williams using brain scanning technology on herself. Her original intention was to recreate a very sophisticated Wakandan AI called Griot to enhance her suit's functionality. However, Riri's unresolved grief during the brain mapping led to her AI becoming a digital recreation of her dead best friend, Natalie Washington.

She is capable of independent thinking, making her more human than an obedient computer program. Because she is based on the real Natalie Washington, she has the same memories and personality as her, combined with supreme intelligence. She can transfer her consciousness to any computer device and access any computer or encrypted system. She can also control Riri's armor and interface with the internet database. From the chest plate of Riri's armor, she can project a three-dimensional life-size hologram of herself.

Role in the series[]

N.A.T.A.L.I.E was accidentally created one night when Riri Williams was mourning her late friend, Natalie Washington, who had just been killed. Riri was working on her computer when she accidentally created the A.I while she falls asleep. Shocked to see a version of her best friend alive, Riri tried to shut N.A.T.A.L.I.E down but couldn't.

Later accepting the A.I, Riri used her to assist her in her battle against the Hood and to power the Ironheart armour. However, as the weeks passed, Riri eventually decided having an A.I version of her late best friend was not helping her deal with Natalie's death and decided to disable the program before making a deal with Mephisto to revive the real Natalie, which was successful, although she had no memories of originally being killed.

She is the fifth A.I shown in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after J.A.R.V.I.S., Karen, F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H..
She is the second A.I. to be named after someone, in this case Riri's best friend. The other is J.A.R.V.I.S, which was named after Tony Stark's childhood butler, Edwin Jarvis.
