Nessie is a character from the Disney animated series, Gargoyles.
Background[]
Nessie is a female Loch Ness Monster whom Anton Sevarius has captured. Like typical depictions of Nessie from Scottish mythology, she is depicted as a plesiosaur-like creature. Nessie lived in a grotto in Loch Ness where Sevarius imprisoned her for study. However, when Sevarius is shown to be planning to capture Nessie and placing her and Big Daddy into captivity, this led Angela to find out that they are actually attempting to kill her, leading Angela to stop Sevarius from killing her, just as Angela removed the sonar tag which one of the commandos placed on Nessie earlier. As a result, Nessie and her mate Big Daddy were able to stop Sevarius and his plans to capture Nessie. Afterwards, Nessie gave birth to two offspring with Big Daddy, happily roaming around Loch Ness once again with their new children.
Role in the series[]
In "Monsters", Angela encounters Nessie in the grotto to which as she stares upon Angela, she introduces herself to Nessie, telling her that she never saw a Loch Ness Monster up close before. Angela then shows of how Nessie feels in captivity, showing affection to her. Meanwhile, Anton Sevarius degrades Nessie's condition to critical, telling the commando squad that she may not be able to survive the next day in captivity as Angela takes good care of her to make sure she is feeling comfortable in the grotto. Later, the commandos arrive at Nessie's enclosure as Sevarius tells them to fire a taser at her, followed by Angela being imprisoned in the grotto. One of the commandos places a sonar tag onto Nessie in a plan to reunite her with Big Daddy in a plan to start a creature farm, much to Sevarius being cruel to Nessie as Angela fears that Sevarius might kill her.
Soon as Nessie is released from the grotto, Sevarius and the commandos are waiting for their chance to capture Nessie, just as Goliath, Elisa Maza, and Bronx escape the grotto via mini sub while Nessie gets attracted to Big Daddy. As Sevarius notices the two mating, he attempts to capture them and put them in captivity much to Goliath and Elisa attempting to rescue Angela. After Goliath rescues Angela, the two see Nessie mating with Big Daddy which Angela removed the sonar tag to stop Sevarius' plans to capture Nessie. Seeing Big Daddy, Sevarius fires a taser on Big Daddy to capture him, much to Nessie's shock while Angela rescues him from being captured. Big Daddy retaliating against Sevarius by ramming into his sub, followed by Nessie working together with her mate to destroy the sub, causing Sevarius' plans to fail. With Sevarius defeated, Nessie and Big Daddy start a new family by giving birth to two offspring as they happily swim around Loch Ness freely just as Angela feels happy that Nessie was able to reunite with Big Daddy.
Trivia[]
- The name "Nessie" is a common nickname for the Loch Ness Monster. However, unlike the depiction of Nessie in Gargoyles, the name "Nessie" does not suggest that the creature in the original myth is female, as there have been several alleged sightings of the Loch Ness Monster that have been deemed hoaxes with no confirmed examinations of the monster up close.
